Hello This is my first post on this forum,i just registered because i found it very useful with good expirience sharing. I want to ask about HP 6720s laptop,i tried to understand form morka question but i didnt find it enough.I have this laptop with newest bios f.09 released 10/1/08,everest says SLIC and RSDT are HPQOEM,but i have no chance to activate vista by OEM certificate and key.Is there any way to activate it without modding my BIOS because its still under warranty.
Install acpiscope Goto file---> load information from bios. Save and upload the *.ats file. To check if SLIC is fully present. But IMO you have got a empty SLIC. This empty SLIC prevents to use a softmod......Paradox was the only one working...but is disabled now......... Is it a HP/Compaq bios?
Now i see that's common problem with Compaq computers, thank zou for opening new thread about that.I'll try to get tables with acpiscope to send, mazbe zou have some solution about this.My laptop came free OS so if we find similar with Vista preinstalled maybe we can have find solution.I'll do all my best.Thank zou again for helping us!
HP 6720s problem Hi It's my first post here so at first I'd like to say hello I have a problem with HP 6720s too. There is no way to get OEM activation with HP certificate. I had very brief contact with genuine-oem-activated 6720s (thx Szymon). Here are my findings: 1. SLIC table is present and even has valid headers and length but the RSA encoded key (to match hp certificate) is absent. Hex dump of this memory area is simply empty. 2. RSDT is valid - vista oem-activated 6720s had the same RSDT table like mine (Free DOS edition) 3. I've made BIOS dumps (via rompaq /b) of both laptops and to my dissapointment there were binary identical. 4. BIOS is named "Compaq" 5. ACPI SLIC table of genuine-oem-activated 6720s is identical to the ones that are attached to the so popular BIOS-emulators like VistaLoader. Is there any chance to discover the way the updater knows how to flash one identical bios image but emptying SLIC table ? I didn't try the mentioned above Regina's trick yet (mainly because of lack of newer than F.09 BIOS).
Thanks for your answer, next time I'll post in that thread, bo let me make some things clear here yet. First, flashing with UniFlash could probably do the trick but risk is very high. I'm not that brave ;( As to softmod, that's always possible (I'm using Paradox now) but it's a "dirty" way, isn't it ? And we don't know how long new softmod will eventually work... It would be great if we could have unmodified system at all, at least for me Unfortunately I can't reverse engineer HP flash tool, either. It's way beyound my skills. As to the second part about RSDT. You're right - OEMTABLE and TABLEID of a free OS machine is different compared to SLIC's, but it's the same for Vista preloaded machine! It is at RSDT HP30D8 followed by 4 times space, as you wrote. I double checked that and it's weird but it's true. That's why I said RSDT was valid. I didn't have to modify RSDT at all to get activated. Why ? On 6720s there is one extra ACPI table called XSDT and I think it is used instead (or in conjunction with) RSDT. It's there HPQOEMSLIC-MPC string is on both machines (Free DOS and Vista preloaded). Greetings from Poland!
Wow! This are really news to me!!! This means the activation query is logical 'OR' regarding RSDT/XSDT OEMTABLE plus OEMTABLEID not logical 'AND'!!! We always modify both of em............I asked myself how the bios flash tool updates the RSDT? Now I know that's not necessary at all! Just to fill up the empty SLIC......it's all about the code in front of... but how can we have access to???? I'll have a look again at the Chinese masters...too bad Zhao isn't reachable this time.......
Hi Petar,YEN and anyone here... Can you awnser me these question please, 1- if the bios of IPILB-LA compatible to use on the IPILB-LB asus motherboard. 2- Also is there a bios for the IPILB-LB to work with more than the HP posted version 5.25 witch I have now on my board. Note: I did find on this site links to a different version of bios for IPILB-LA posted by YEN and others but I am afraid to used on this board before I make sure is compatible. I was hoping to find version 5.07 for the IPILB-LB
IPIBL-LB and IPIBL-LA are not compatible as far as I know..... IPIBL-LB - doesn't need mod IPIBL-LA - has mod already.
