Do you really think of that??
Old XP machine(dual core 1 gig ram) will perfectly run that 8 crap, (the issues will come just for drivers availability) otherwise, as Microsoft said:
Windows 8 fast and fluid on every machine running 7, same requirements... and seven remember runs smoothly on xp machines...
8 uses less resources than 7 on a xp machine, tried with a few old xp machines, so.....
Removing Aero, gets steps back to xp UI(just UI..... this will be clear), xp usability is 100 times better than 8, remembering how many years old is this OS :D

We are talking about a "upgrade", and if you well remember, with 7 era, upgrade was clearly not suggested, clean installation is 1000 times better....
In Ms blogs, officialy is said that with "40$" upgrade you can even wipe out your entire HD formatting it....
so is this still a upgrade or what???
    My conclusions:
    - if you have a legitimate XP o 7 installed, with 40$ upgrade, you can upgrade keeping something to 8, or as a part of upgrade do a clean install??? Ms still call this upgrade???
    - or as Brandon Leblanc say, buy a Pro System Builder(a new installable OS with a product key, installable from new hd from 0)

How much will cost Pro System Builder???
less than a 7 edition on the shelves???

With that price, we can talk about less or more than 7, this is just a different move to cover our eyes showboating "a so low price" (remember it is a upgrade not a new installable Iso media,)
maybe because MS is really scared about all negative impressions about 8??

Warrior, alex, the both of you are totally right with your arguments in terms of XP's performance on some machines. I say "some" as those machines mostly differ from the ones which came off the shelf some years ago. Believe me, I build many of these goods for me and my customers and all/most of them were happy and still are. I tried many different modifications during the times when evaluating W3.1 over 95 to W7 and now facing 8. There were many stages with all shadows of gray but we could handle the all of it. Most of the time, it was matter of hardware to eliminate certain problems when present but all was easy to handle. I'm not ok with you saying that an XP machine can handle a W8 as if it were made for. Negative in terms of so many different hardware and these f*****g drivers which sometimes are no more available, and here we are at its end. So this medal still has two sides: The one, which you don't see, the one I don't see and the one, the both of us don't see ...

News! Windows 8 Release Preview users will also be able to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro RTM at US$39.99, but they can only keep their personal files or keep nothing at all.

I was going to write that here, actually I did but then deleted the post. From what I read that may be a bit misleading. Apparently you can upgrade from the preview to Win8 but you must still have a license for a qualifying version of windows ie., Win XP or 7 or Vista. I assume that may mean that a fella will have to enter the serial number from the COA sticker but we will likely have to wait to find out for sure. It may or may not, from what I remember in the past all a person needed was a working version of windows (qualifying version of course) from which to start the upgrade process from but that may or may not be true this time.

Hmm, I did see something about that. It is unclear though what exactly "need an underlying license" will need for the install. In the past when I upgraded from XP to Vista (yes, I did) I think I only had to start the install from within an activated copy of Win XP, I never had to provide the old key. As far as I know that never changed with upgrades to Win 7, I actually had two but chose to use the OEM versions instead to avoid the possibility of having to re-activate when I changed or upgraded hardware.
That being said we will probably just have to wait a few months to find out if Microsoft has changed that, I know that a very large percentage of laptop users cannot read their 10 year old COA sticker, I wonder if MS will require them to if they haven't in the past...

You are saying you have decided to upgrade then?

Ps, your signature.. I thought Win ME was good, people complained that it wasn't different than 98, not that it was no good. MS introduced a few things in ME that were carried over into XP, new driver models, system restore... People didn't "see" this but that and Win 2000 was the foundation for XP.

I'm glad you had a better experience with ME than I did. I never once got Windows ME to work reliably on any PC that I tried to. I had tons more reliability out of the beta builds of Windows 7 six or more months before it RTM'd. It seemed to me that yes, they threw features into ME that were unfinished and barely working versions of what ended up in XP. I never hardly had any luck with System Restore in XP, but it definitely was closer to successful than it's implementation in ME.

To pollute a society make promises and offer your 'products' for a cheap price. That's the way how to strengthen monopoly. It's also the idea of any dictator, their 'product' is the same: 'goodwill for the folks'.
Or in other way: Feed the trolls to keep them favourable.

    Win8 Upgrade

That's fine and dandy for the upgrade part but if you have by any chance to format and re-install win8 what happen's.

Do you have to re-install win7 and then follow procedures to upgrade win8 again.

Humm will have to think of that one if you still have that key for win7.

I think it would be wise to check the machine if it's really activated and then submit the upgrade as for other post that I've seen that you have to have proof of purchase well you know I keep all my receipts for up to 10 years, yea right.

Melodrama abound. Can you two find any more ways to overreact? I guess it's okay if the average joe railroads MS in the court of public opinion, but it's somehow "different" if MS does something in the same vein with it's products. We all do it to some degree or another but how I hate hypocrisy.

I should put my BS boots on and grab an umbrella.

No, I can't, I'm overreacting at WinUnleaked, FaiKee got me into a infraction, so I am very angry and, hence, my way to overreact...

I never do upgrade for OS, it’s always best to do clean install.
So $40 is too much. If it were for full version of windows 8 I would gladly pay for it.

$40 is already cheap. You would need to pay $169 just to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional! I agree with you that we shouldn't upgrade. Clean install is better in some ways.

$40.00 will get up a copy of Win8, if you have the needed prevoius version licence. How you install Win8 is up to you. I am pretty sure you are given the option to keep ceratin things or do a clean install. I also think you'll have the chance to make a bootable Win8 install USB during the process. I participated in a Connect program sometime back where we were able to d/l WinDP and these were the choices offered.

I gets confusing because we are used to the "Upgrade version" CD and the "Full version".

I could be way off here, but I think you are going to be able to get a full version to do a clean install if you wish tanjali - all for $40.00 - good deal IMO

I don't like hypocrisy as well namely that of M$. And I have not addressed a particular company at my post, I have addressed all monopolists. The assignment to M$ only was made by you...so it seems you have got what is 'the difference'. More than 20 years dependence of that company at corporate PCs and gaming PCs!

"I should put my BS boots on and grab an umbrella." You can do that. Panem et circenses, or should I say caliga et umbella?

    @ Half the price...
I'd be TWICE as impressed. ;)

One wonders if there will be a student or educational version. Any one want to guess the price? How 'bout $14.95.

The old adage applies... You get what you pay for:biggrin:
