Again, just my guess: Since the upgrade method for this (without going out and buying a upgrade install DVD) is through your existing Windows installation, I think that it automatically validates your key before it lets you buy and download the "upgrade".

    LOL!!!!

Once the "upgrade" is downloaded through your existing, old XP, Vista or 7, they do provide the tools necessary to burn it to DVD or to a USB thumb drive. I suspect (again, I do not know) that it'll be a bootable DVD for a completely clean install.

I think it's a good deal, too. And yes, you can definitely burn it to DVD or put it on USB thumb drive in a MS-sanctioned way.

Right. We all know you haven't been talking about MS in all your posts about Windows 8, especially in the Windows 8 related threads like this one. ??? I never said that you weren't referring to other companies as well. If you want to act innocent "Me? *I* wasn't talking about Microsoft!", then leave me out of your game playing. I'm way too old for that.

You don't like it but it's okay for you to do it, then?

*Yawn* Yep, I already read that latin just recently, probably this same thread just a few posts above. How pretentious to repeat often.

True, they will allow you to burn the iso file into a DVD or USB stick using the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant, as fot the part of me being overreactive... LOL~

    1. The WUA.exe can burn it to USB FD, bootable. 2. it can burn to a bootable ISO, in win7 or WRP, you can burn it to DVD by right-clicking ISO, in older windows, you'll need a 3rd party app to do that.

    What are you babbling of?
The 'game' you have just created is your chimera, do I need to expect chimeras when getting old as well?
You don't need to put your words into my mouth. I am not your kid you need to educate.
I had posted my opinion and when replying you need BS boots then don't complain if somebody defends his opinion.

They'll supply a special USB stick that sucks XP off your machine, replaces it with Win8, then the USB self destructs in 15 minutes...:D

:) Funny, but seriously, they're offering the upgrades to XP, Vista and 7, so as Spock would say, it's only logical they would provide ways to make it as painless as possible. :) They'll need it in Vista, too.

    LOL!

Well, im going to upgrade the machines i have bought with the window tax if its available for laptops with oem. Since its easy to get win 7 running with loaders, but still unclear if it will be an easy solution for win 8.

I have a tablet pc with win 7 and wacom that i have tried win 8 on, and it ran better but still some issues with software. One positive thing was that win 8 did not need manufacturer software for the wwan card, it was detected at at setup.

If classic shell works in final release my only two main issues are solved (start menu and boot to desktop)

Microsoft could have been more clearer in the statement, so there are still some questions.

    1. Assuming laptop preinstalled windows is eligible:
Would one win 8 iso work on several computers, or would you have to install and activate the oem on every single machine before getting it.
(I think xp was problematic to activate using the key provided with the machine)
    2. price: Will the 39.99$ currency conversion put paypal to shame.

    1. One Windows 8 iso can be installed in different computers, also the OEM:SLP keys can work everywhere. 2. No.

No, the OEM_SLP key is located in the MSDMTable of the BIOS / EFI, is unique for each machine and does NOT work everywhere, it works along with the hash of that licensed machine only.
That 39.99$ offer is not a preinstalled license it's an UPGRADE.

If you want an OEM version for a new install (no upgrade) you have to buy the Windows 8 / Windows 8 Pro System Builder product.

I'd rather spend $39.99 on a few linux live distro disks.

Windows 8 potential is low. Users who aren't PC savvy and have been using XP/Vista/7 I feel sorry for; one look at Windows 8 they're going to think 'wtf is this, cube busters deluxe?' I mean, when it was released to DP I couldn't even find out how to exit an application...

To be honest I don't blame Microsoft for updating their UI, but it looks like it's going back to Windows 95 and they didn't have to strip the &%$£*%£ start menu out completely.

    //Rant end

It is like a retail version, but much cheaper and without full support of M$ (phone support). It comes as a DVD, a small box and own serial to be activated online. It is made for those who build their own PC or buy a 'naked' PC on demand with their favorite hardware.
The EULA of those licenses of M$ violates EU laws, though. M$ claims such a license cannot be resold and installed on other machines. The EU laws overrule that EULA here, we can sell such licenses legally and don't care what M$ thinks about.

Most of my friends are using those system builder licenses which are available for w7 as well here in the EU. They are like retail versions and get all updates of course. And you get them without to buy a new PC here!
