    @Tiger is too far. :)

yes... our resources may run out, we must invade a new planet
(one that has better usb 3.x external enclosures)

Ah yes, who can forget that iconic final scene with Charlton Heston in the movie Planet of the USB 3.x External Enclosures:

"You maniacs! You blew up the hard drive with your defective USB cable! Damn you, G_D damn you all to hell!"

  7. There is much more than black and white.
Our world is a lot more colorful than we can perceive it.
For some women already, because they have an additional variety of eye pins in the eye.
These "tetrachromates" may possibly see up to 100 million more colors.
Diversity instead of simplicity has a future! :)

I am sure one of our tech giants, apple, MS, most probably the great Zuckerberg himself, will come up with a pill against racism anyway, soon. But when I read the present times news media... They make me believe I suspect, once we get rid of Trump, (and replace him with his even greater moron VP) all our problem will be solved.

Compared to this, my little problem as solved easily, as I only needed to underatadn that I need an external 12V supply and then bought an Inverse Frontier 3,5" HDD case. $15 cash, no Amazon...

Thank you all for the help (and the entertainment).
I am aware that without MDL members I would be totally screwed as I hardly know anything about computers, AND live in a country whose language I do not speak.... :fear2:

For anyone wondering what they could expect speed wise using a Samsung 860 EVO SSD as a external Storage I tested a extra 1 I have (that's waiting for a Laptop to be installed in).

The attached screenshot is the fastest speed I was getting transferring a 3+GB .iso file over a USB 3.0 port connection W10 x86 OS.

Samsung 860 EVO SSD_ 2bSSD to SSD copy ISOb.jpg

Edit: Strange, when I ran the same test on the Test Rig 1 (W10 x64) w/ the same ISO read & Write this time the scores were way faster SSD Read to desktop (EVO 850 SSD) was 388 MB/s & on OS w/ the M.2 SSD the Write speed was 329 MB/s, Read write speed was 395 MB/s.

This may be due to the USB 3.0 addapter used to connect your external 860 EVO.

I don't get it. Do you mean the EVO 850 and the M.2 SSD perform way better than the 860?

I'd expect speeds around 350 because there is a change to USB 3.0 which eats bandwidth / depends on chip set / OS and driver etc,etc...but 135 is very poor anyway.

Reading a large single file should go fast except there is an issue with the USB 3.0 implementation / conversion.

Sorry for the confusion on my post, all connected to USB 3.0 port w/ a short USB 3.0 cable.
The 135 MB/s was on EVO 860 w/ W10 x86, I need to check adapter on that rig, or run same test on the other 2 W10 x64 OSs & connected to the same USB 3.0 port & note if different controllers, then switch ports w/ another USB 3.0 port.

    On test rig1 w/ W10 x64 & 2 different SSD partitions/OS
    w/ 850 EVO SSD read = 388 MB/s
    w/ 960 EVO M.2 read = 395 MB/s

*Note: these were the fastest transfer speeds I noticed as in my previous post w/ screenshot.

Using USB 3.x is no way to test the speed of any SSD. The best way to observe the SSD speed would be through the pcie bus, and that still could have a variance depending on the motherboard/chipset.
if you wanted to test the speed of your usb device (flash drive or external enclosure) then it still depends on the chipset and motherboard because all are not created equal

    I also have a Lenovo T480 laptop (M.2 SSD) w/ USB 3.1 Type-C Gen. 1
    & a USB 3.1 Type-C Gen. 2/ Thunderbolt 3 ports,
Meanwhile I'm waiting on cables from Monoprice to arrive to run testing w/ Lenovo T480.

I'll probably prepare a transfer speed comparison spreadsheet after all the testing is done.

Sounds good as long as you make note of what your testing with and test everything equally.
I have a thunderbolt port on the back of my desktop but I do not have any thunderbolt devices to know if it works
