@qwerta36 Maybe this is because you needed 10 post to report a non issue @beamslider He doen't even know what cert and key he had installed...go figure, if it was the first leaked lenovo key he was using it might be WAT has detected just that and deactivated because of that
Originally i had a longer post but i think i might as well shorten it to the essence. Note: Obviously the following is just my assessment of the situation at large, so while it does make sense from a logical POV when you look at the big picture it still may be totally and entirely wrong. I think Microsoft will always leave a little door open because it quite simply is in their own best interest to do so. Some things they do are incredibly dumb, yes, but they are not entirely stupid and they know perfectly well that what they might loose due to a few people using the OS without a license, even piracy in its entirety, is just a drop in the bucket compared to what they would de-facto loose if they lost their market-shares along with their quasi-monopoly. Remember: The last thing they want is a shift in the OS market. This is and always will be their worst nightmare as it has the potential to put them out of business altogether. And then piracy will be the smallest of their problems too. The line "We would rather have them pirate our OS than a competitors" (once uttered by some Microsoft bigwig) was no accident, they meant exactly what they said because they are perfectly aware of the fact that with user-friendly operating systems on the market such as Ubuntu, (to name only one), which are 100% FREE, with an already immense and steady-growing library of 100% FREE software, it might take very little for said shift to happen. And once started there will be no stopping it. On the contrary, it will be getting worse for Microsoft in an exponential fashion because the more people are going to switch to another platform the more interesting the platform becomes for software producers, and the more software they produce for the platform the more users will switch to it. I mean lets face it; if all the programs that are available for Windows today would be available for Linux as well, who in their right mind would be using Windows anymore? Who would pay Microsoft one penny when they can have the same or an even better system for free while NOT having to put up with all the things Microsoft demand you to accept in their EULAs? Obviously not very many, and Microsoft is just as aware of this fact as everyone else. And that is why i think they will always leave a little door open. Of course they will keep plugging some holes here and there so the paying customer and the world doesnt think they arent doing anything about it at all, but at the end of the day they know that they cant afford said shift to happen so they will grind their teeth and see to it that some way to use the OS without a license remains because they know that as along as the door is not totally closed the people wont seriously start to look for an ultimate final replacement...
It may surprise you to learn that just because an issue isn't one that you've personally experienced, it doesn't make it a non-issue. Er, but I did. It was a Fujitsu cert and the first key in the list I linked to previously. Please pay attention. Appreciate the attempt at providing useful information (finally), however it wasn't the Lenovo key. EDIT: To be correct, it was the Lenovo key originally (but not now). Perhaps WAT deactivated my original installation due to use of the Lenovo key and, as Hazar suggested, once deactivated it shall remain so no matter what?
i had a problem with my hp bios mod a couple days ago with this update installed every time i would reboot it would ask me to activate so maybe you guys should listen to him because i know he is telling the truth. my problem went away after i uninstalled the update.
I have an ASUS motherboard with slic 2.1 Asus mod, Asus key used and Asus cert. That update is installed and it has not caused a problem. I also have a MSI laptop, it came with slic 2.1 with Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit. I wiped it, installed Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. Had to use Asus key as there is no MSI ultimate key, used original certificate from the laptop. It also has the update and has no problem.
@qwerta36 it is a none issue... don't you think there would be many, many more issues like yours reported? Anyway, you do not know what you did exactly and i am not going to spit around in your post to determine the problems just because you can not properly explain what is wrong, there is no need to continue this discussing because obviously you ain't gonna acknowledge your own flaws bye bye
Hazar I was wondering if your non-gui loader is going to get through this WAT. As you know your loader was very successful for a lot of us, and if you think it might be exposed do we just delete the files or can you just use one of your loaders that was made with orbit to remove it? Thanks in advance (I'm still running that original non-gui )
Just installed it on my Gigabyte board with Dell slic/cert and no problems. Going to uninstall it though just to be safe.
Too bad I have to leave in a couple of days....not watching the crime.... Guys, please stay friendly to each other. There are different opinions, to claim dogged "I'm right" will heat up the discussion. You don't have to come to an conclusion yet and please respect each other. Hung-kwan is back and welcome here. Everybody is as long as the rules are not violated. I also appeal to all Supermods to be tactful and to act de-escalating if needed. @qwerta369 your kind of mod is the most original we can make...so if WAT has detected something it must be about the cert and or key or something else. At your mod the old SLIC2.0 has been replaced, nothing else. The same is done by the OEM's at a lot of bioses. 'The experts' at MDL will not join this discussion to get a progress on WAT, but for entertainment. The reason therefore is that they cannot react reasonable. There are no available facts (significant facts). You have to do that in an academic way.....when WAT is ON and when there are more reports about it. Also there is no reason to be afraid of..it's an optional update..I'm repeating: If you want to play with WAT, backup your OS partition (image) and restore it to get rid of WAT for sure.... Useful info we can get if an user is willing to determine what exactly he has done. Detailed facts and if he can reproduce it! WAT has to separate the mimicked SLICs (generally activations) from the official ones. This bound we have to determine. Then we can think about to make them to belong to the official SLICs again...
I think you're being too naive here. Microsoft knows full well that there are really no good enough alternatives for Windows yet. I have tried Ubuntu, and it's nowhere near as user-friendly as Windows 7. Also, OpenOffice can never replace Office 2010, GIMP can't replace Photoshop and there are no alternatives for Visual Studio and many other professional softwares. Multimedia support is also extremely poor in Ubuntu compared to Windows 7. Plus, no popular games run on Ubuntu. So, Windows is safe for at least another decade no matter what. Question is do MS want to stop piracy? Yes, they do. Do they put enough effort in doing so? Probably not. But even if they put plenty of effort to tackle piracy, it will be futile. There will always be some way to pirate the OS. But what they are doing is , making the job of piracy lot more difficult. Before WGA came out, cracking Windows was very simple -- no BIOS mods or Loaders were required -- even the noobs could do it. But nowadays, you have to have at lot more knowledge about computers to successfully crack Windows 7. With the release of WAT, that job will undoubtedly get tougher.
well is there only me here that is worried about the check every 90 days :S it isnt a problem that WAT is being brought out we all no the loaders will always be updated. what is the problem is M$ being able to check your system every day if they wanted to. and apprently you cannot revert your system back once it says not geuniue. and you will need the update sometime in the future to get all the other updates.
I think I've read nearly every post in this thread. And still can't find a definitive answer about if WAT disables the bios mod or not. I've seen a couple of people who said that after they installed WAT that Win7 was no longer genuine. So is there a real answer or no?
I agree with most of it. With WAT M$ will be able to act more flexible. They can operate how to separate the pirated installations from the others...they can adjust the strength of WAT...It could end up in a cat-and-mouse game...... Anyway DAZ loader for example is very easy to apply even for a noob...
