yeah any systems i had with the original lenovo key i have updated and changed to a newer one so that im not worried about. though i wonder if it can tell if i used to have the key being used or not somehow. though i doubt it
@searchengine I meant registry could be faked easily...so ms never is gonna use that, it is more likely read from bios straight away But still i see nothing to worry about, what makes you think the bios date can not be altered?
for me the date could not be soon enough. more worried about mom's system etc... than mine, besides i would guess if the program was installed and they were going to look at the date it would already be working without the servers then. i tested he wat install on 2 older systems with 2.1 and they are still fine though its only been 1 day
If M$ do as is stated they intend to it will kill Windows 7 and 8 and etc as an OS of choice for businesses. XP's WGA already takes down legitimate systems and causes frustrations. Anyone for Linux ??
I would guess that loaders are much more of a problem and more of a target than bios mods are. No doubt they could tighten it up to catch a lot of bios mods by checking bios dates, hardware vs bios slic, etc. Will they? We will have to wait and see but, I kind of doubt that they will go to extremes to try and catch bios mods, as they risk cutting off legitimate installs unless they are extremely careful with how they do it. They may go as far as checking that the key, slic and cert match the brand but anything else I would think starts pushing into hitting legitimate users. That plus, if they really were this hot on bios mods, they certainly could have designed a better system from the start and made it much harder to accomplish. They have know about it since Vista and yet use basically the same OEM activation for Windows 7. If they were so hot go after bios mods why would they not have designed a better protected activation system from the start for Windows 7? We will see in a few days, but as I said, I suspect that it is mostly aimed at loaders and hacks.
I activated by BIOS mod on a Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3HP board using a Gigabyte certificate. I was curious whether WAT would deactivate me so I imaged the OS partition for safety before installing WAT. After adding WAT and rebooting I am still activated and shown as genuine.
people the wat server is NOT turned on yet. even if you installed this update its NOT calling home yet. so you can not tell at this time if this kill your mod or not.. they may have simply added a few signatures already in the update for the lenovo key and things like remove wat etc.. but one it starts connecting then you will know if you are still activated imo
FYI.......I was running slic 2.1 mod bios on Gigabyte eg41mf-us2h. Installled wat Update and had no problems at all. Genuine all the way..................
I read in another website that this update "call" home [aka microsoft] every week, month or even after 6 monts to check the status of the activation, it itself does nothing now..... but watch out
correct. as of now it looks like the only thing it does it find the lenovo key and were not even sure of that. and maybe find a loader or two. once it starts calling home then we may have issues.
