The only way to get Genuine Status back on a Wat(ed) PC (what a word) is to enter a Legal Retail / Non-OEM Key with Online Validation.

your bios will remain exactly the same until you reflash them.

Hence once they've been flashed successfully there is no need to flash again.

I'm using a BIOS mod, using HP cert (HPQOEMSLIC-MPC.XRM-MS) and HP OEM SLP key (ends with 2C9T3)

Is there any known 'precautions' I should take? like changing to a different cert and/or key? or is it irrelevant at this point?

I used the Lenovo key at first, then changed to the Dell key when I heard blacklisting rumors and now I'm using the HP key (because I have an HP cert)

As long as u are activated fine just leave it. Just don't download the WAT update. We are all still waiting for a resolution.

Truth be told, to them Linux is the rival. Dual booting allows users to become comfortable with Linux whilst still having windows for ease. They probably see killing grub as a good thing as it makes switching over to Linux more of a hassle.

    Cooljay,
Right now nobody knows why your system is non-genuine. If MS had been after bios mods, most of us would have been in the dock. Also nobody's sure what WAT is detecting or even whether the darn thing is on or not.
I would suggest you wait for a while till the air clears up and people here understand whats going on. Then you can apply the right fix.
...of course if its something mission-critical you are doing on your machine, its a different matter.

But doing that will make a lot of linux users pissed off and M$ has no right to mess up user's grub system

Well if they kill a dual boot system with a legit windows install then MS is going to be in for a hell of a battle.

I am a .net developer, still I use linux for php development according to the customer needs and target.
I use linux to code for mono.
But I use windows for all my needs.
Many of my friends are using linux and windows; Some are considering seriously using only linux.
Killing grub will not only piss off illegitimate users, it will as well make legal owners fly away from ms.
Do they really want that ? Or do they prefer to have everyone, including illegitimate users, use Windows ?
