@perceivedelusion 1) Both are fine ResetBase remove superseded components and makes updates permanent you need to run it every month to remove replaced updates Cleanup do no affect WU it's ment to reduce WinSxS directory size 2) Some updates for .NET 3.5 are dual-branch 3) Security and General updates are always processed (no option to turn off) Security updates are ran the last ones
Right after I bothered you I made a guess and ran it just fine. Very easy to run and get good results. Thanks for your considerable time and effort on this. I haven't used WU since 2009 and thanks to you, I still don't. EDIT - I should have said "Thanks to you and all involved."
I downloaded the updates, I also followed the guides that I need to copy the update path manually but still persist. What I try to install is Office 2016 x64 and ran InstallerOfficeV15.
Tried that too, cmd keeps asking the location. But nevermind, replaced Office 2016 with Office 365 already.
InstallerOfficeV15b - Fixed Office 2016 32-bit detection on Windows x64 thanks to @PointZero for the heads-up
Any way to download an update which unable to download from WHD? I copied the links from URLreport to any browser but still no luck. It gave me an error that the updates I wanted is not availabe, etc.
at Gloeyisk, Did you look at the WHD Changelog list (in abbodi1406's signature) to see if they had been superseded or had been removed by M$?
hi, system is win 8.1 x64 (old notebook compaq cq58) trying WHDownloader last version: windows update says it's up to date, only silverlight not installed (took the day!), while WHD is downloading 243 files (3.6Go) in windows8.1-x64 list and 229 files (2Go) in windows8.1-update3-x64 list that, I think, will go in same folders. do I run WHD-W81UI anyway?? thanks
You only need windows8.1-x64 list or windows8.1-update3-x64 list, not both WHD offer hotfixes and eliminate superseded updates WU do not offer hotfixes, and offer some superseded updates it's your call to choose
WHD does not have a connection to the install. it downloads a list of updates, you select what you need and installing them is up to you, WHD8.1UI is an integrator/installer for them.
I downloaded updates for Office 2016 X64 with WHD, then converted the exe files to msp in order to include them in the iso in update folder. However when I converted the exe to msp files, I selected a folder in which there were the isos of the office pack. Final result msp are in the folder but isos have disappeared !! . Does any already faced the same issue ? Is it in the specifications of WHD as I did not find anything related to this ? Thx
Doing WHD for 7, 8.1 and 10, is there a list anywhere that hints (even vaguely) at whether or not an update should be avoided or not? I've been using se7en x64 from 2010 till 2.5 months ago. My guessing what's good for 8.1 and W10 may not be the best practice. I've never done anything but Hotfixes and Security Updates by hand, no WU's. I know to avoid Rollups but ... thanks for ANY input
When you use WHD-Windows7-Updates-Installer, it will leave a script on the desktop which allows you to stop telemetry on 7. You are already familiar with simplix, that would result in somewhwat the same.
Thanks Enthousiast, I've done 7 by hand for 10 years, I more worried about 8.1. Susan Bradley does a patch Tuesday column but ... thanks
