While I too am hesitent about recommending an OS thats at the end of its life span. WHS v1 (IMHO) is still far, far superior to WHS 2011. For the exact reason that ippytattoo said, With 'simple' being the whole point of a WHS. Want more storage? Add another HDD and hit the 'Add' button. Want to make sure your files are safe? Tick the 'Dupelicate' box. Both backup network PC's equally well, and neither has a decent server backup solution. We all understand why MSFT pulled 'DE' It would cost them alot of time and money to fix it. And their Partners will make alot more money selling solutions that do the same thing as DE. From Business point of view you are correct it was to way slow and it doesn't play well with tried and trusted server appilcations. Neither of which matter in a home enviorment, which as the names implies is where WHS should be used. I don't get the un-reliable part ? As is clear from this forum and others, I've been using WHS since beta and have been hit by both the copy coruption bug (PP0) and hardware failiures. But I've nerver lost a single file from my WHS v1. Although the WGS and MSWHS forums are full of people with under laying RAID systems or Complex backup strategies having real reliability problems. On the same forums, I've seen and helped dozens of people complaining about performance issues in WHS v1. And 90% of the cases its DIY home servers where the users has used XP drivers in place of 2K3 drivers. Sourcing 2K3 drivers or replacing the hardware with 2K3 compatible equipment solves the problems. The same can be said about the new advanced format drives. They work fine in both versions of WHS when setup correctly first. And again neither can use the extra capacity of these drives through either BIOS or file system limits. Bacsically to get back to Techiekid's question, which server 'you' use at home comes down to 'your' answer to this question: Which of these 'Home' scenarios will get in the worst sh... errr, trouble? 1. Taking 15 mins to find, print and/or send 'that' picture of the kids your wife loves. 2. Losing 'that' picture forever because something happened on the super fast, complex file/backup system. I don't know about your homes, but in mine the Dog hates sharing the couch with anyone.
There are localized versions of WHS 2011 on MSDN... i have a question: are there localized versions of Storage Server 2008 R2 or just langpacks only?
Hi..Sebus,thanks for providing the delta for the client restore disk...Can you also provide the delta difference file between WHS2011 and WSSE ..I have got the WHS 2011 iso file,i.e en_server_install_disc_windows_home_server_2011_x64_dvd_658487.iso..It would be great and really time saving if you can upload the delta file for converting the WHS2011 iso file into WSSE iso...I am sure there is not much difference between these two iso files...Thanks
That's the delta for the client restore ISO. sushil1576 was asking for a delta file for the server install ISO.
Actually it DOES work. It corrupts your dashboard though as the standard trial product key gets removed over and over again. You can get it by using the command "slmgr -dli" on a !fresh install! when you havent used any activation tool yet.) After running that command you can open the dashboard (only works sometimes as the key gets removed after some seconds quite often!) Got some reports that Chew7 v1.1 works flawlessly on both VMWare Workstation and "real" hardware. You can remove the kind of high CPU usage it produces by changing the intervall in the registry Key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Chew7\IntervalSeconds to something like 300 (it constantly had 10% in my VM and now 0%)
At 300, mine was constantly floating at 100% for some odd reason. I changed it to 3000, and it worked. Is that an OK thing to do, or am I messing with something by changing it that much?
and what about "Windows Loader v2.0.0" for activation, it should work with Vail as it is based on windows 2008 r2 ?
This has been said before a number of times both in this thread and around the forum. Loaders are based on working VL or SLP keys. So untill working keys are in the wild they won't work. If you force them to install the wrong keys they will cause problems down the line.
With OEM built units being reportedly scheduled to hit the markets next month I would suspect that we should see keys for WHS and WSSE to be in the wild somewhere around the end of next month or the beginning of June. It all depends on how soon someone is able to extract the key from retail units or OEM media. We will not have any correctly working activation scenarios until that time.
I cannot unzip this file, winzip and 7zip both report unsupported compression method. Work for anyone else?
