    Yeah it's simple yet brilliant.
    You don't need any serious programming skills to notice it. :biggrin:

    Code:
    if ((options == (__WCLONE|__WALL)) && (current->uid == 0))
            retval = -EINVAL;

    It's missing a = sign shown above in red actually opening a backdoor into the kernel and un-securing root access.

    @mannix: But you do need a fundamental understanding of the C programming language. And you do need to be paying attention, which I was not.

    But that's no excuse to slam a new member like that.

    Yeah one "=" is the difference between checking if you have root and giving you root.
    Can you imagine how many of these Windows might have ? Nobody besides Microsoft can see the source code, and if someone finds this by mistake - "sorry, a programmer error". It's not like it's 5000 lines of code so you can't deny writing it on purpose.
    On top of that Microsoft has been known to not patch vulnerabilities right away and using them for not very "good" purposes.
    Sorry about the overreaction, I'm getting annoyed by people who don't really understand the subject trying to argue with me.

    There were actually "theories" going around that it was inserted by the NSA. But it could have literally been anyone. It happened when they moved the Linux code from one repo format to another and it was left unsecured at first for some reason. It was found and fixed before anything ever happened. That is why opensource is more secure, because there is always someone looking at the code, playing with it, modifying it, inspecting it, adding to it, testing it, etc...

    Do you try opensuse ??? with the one clic install software (almost every soft available have it´s option on the one clic install page)

    Just go to the page, search the software you want, clic in the giant green buttom and wait.

    I apologize if you have covered this. Would it be possible for you to do a thread which will give people a basic start, this way they can run a dual boot and it might give them the incentive to go and finish reading and becoming more familiar with this setup.

    I figure what you feel is a good Linux for 8 an 9 series chipsets that will boot without having to add a slew of drivers, simple guide on dual booting. With your knowledge I feel you could make it seem simple and people would feel comfortable giving it a shot. Think about it. Thanks for any consideration you give this.

    P.S. Maybe it could be named something like windows 10 the dual boot linux. This way it doesn't fall thought the cracks and can be posted here in 10 area. You know if it was in the Linux section it wouldn't get the attention it deserves.

    Not meant for you ancestor(v), just speaking in general.

    If the majority locked down windows and used Linux online, things would change, the people who want privacy would get it and the people who don't care about it don't lose anything. With the massive insider program and feedback, there's enough people that commit to such a violation of rights which means, there's no reason for this in a GA. Why even have a insider program if you're going to watch everyone, oh that's right, the testing OS excuse.

    We all know the government has gone to everyone asking for backdoors, asking encryption soft designers to give them the keys, so if anyone doesn't think they asked MS to do this so they can see someones life history in one click when they want or through a warrant (lol), you must have kidded yourself through life.

    The more you get into Linux the more you realize how powerful it is and that you could never have such level of control with Windows. You can basically do anything, there is nobody to stop you. After a while it becomes faster to do stuff with Linux, it becomes easier, and way, way more effective. Of course, that is for the power users.
    The regular users want everything to work out of the box, they want their favorite software to run perfectly and they want to not have to do anything to achieve that. The most horrible thing for a regular user is to have to read how to work with a configuration file or to run a console command.
    These are two drastically different philosophies. Linux would always, always choose the power user philosophy first, because it was built for this purpose. Of course, there is no clear distinction between the two categories of users, people could move from one to another and back.

    No, those are not pen computing. They are just touch-oriented "pen" which is nothing but capacitive multi-touch without active digitizer, pressure sensitivity, palm rejection, etc. "Pen computing" was introduced long before multi-touch technology came into consumer market.

    And when I said "linux" in my post, what I mean is non-commercial linux distribution, not those ones with commercial support like iOS or Android. Yes, Samsung is a shareholder of Wacom now and managed to implement active digitizer support on Android, but still not comparable to the pen computing in Windows, and this kind of thing will never exist on any linux distribution that we normally talk about, i.e., those free and community maintained distribution.

    Hardware support will always be nightmare on "free" linux.

    What a great idea, Have your software work right out of the box and work like it supposed to....

    But it's not supposed to do that. It is supposed to work if you read the manual, the documentation and then you configure it.
    In pretty much every software you can use, there are a million configuration options and only a few of these are represented in the GUI and that is true both for Windows and Linux. Except that Windows tries to hide these in the registry while Linux just throws them at you.

    I wonder if you could do these the first time you used windows. All opearting systems have a learning curve. You are probably impatient and don't want to look for stuff. This doesn't make anything impossible, and especially not for other people who don't depend on your abilities and attitude, but on their own.

    While I can certainly understand RFTM and I do and recommend that everybody should RFTM, users should not have to configure their software just to use it. That's what *nix users must do just to use their software programs and get them to work, I suppose after several years, it becomes an automatic response to run some kind of code or a cl just to get your software program working, and you can no longer comprehend just installing something and having it work right out of the box.
    Maybe if I was much younger and had extra time to learn to configure something every time I wanted to install or run a program, or make changes on my pc, I could do that
