Not at all. WZOR is saying that starting January 15th OEMs will be getting pre-release RTM builds together with new RTM keys and this process will last for 3 months (so probably OEMs will receive few different pre-RTM builds). Also WZOR says that those pre-release builds will also accept Win 8.1 keys. My best guess is that those builds will accept Win 8.0 keys too, because it's just an update and not a completely new OS.
nonono.... a lot of us here remember the Windows 7 build 7989..... this was the best Update as ever (in fact was a development build for that ugly crap called Windows 8)
seems that some do not understand an evolution process of software ... any kind of operating system will not get to an end because it is under development almost every day. ... really tired of that complaining all day long be happy that we are not stuck at W3.1 or even earlier
It is final. This update will be something like service pack. Windows Phone 8 had 3 of this updates. The point of Windows 8.1 - Update 1 will be to merge a lot of stuff with Windows Phone 8.1. They are both suppose to be out at the same time. In case of WP "out" means finished.
Are we for realzies calling this a service pack cause we called Windows 8.1 a kinda sorta ballmer stop rick rolling us service pack Ok so we don't get much out of the update at all. Maybe the start menu or I can keep going with classic shell which I kinda love for customizing. Well winter break between school went way too fast.
This update will bring small changes here and there, but major improvements will come in Windows 8.2 (or whatever they are going to name it).
They won't accept Windows 8 keys, even Windows 8.1 doesn't accept Windows 8 keys. I am talking about accepting key when installing the OS. But you can activate Windows 8.1 Update 1 with your Windows 8 key after installing.
I sincerely hope that the delivery method is through online, free standalone update and not delivered via the store. In other words, like a SP download. Too painful to download a new iso.
