Due to the high rate of unsuccessful installations, I'll just wait for it to come out on its own time.
I have installed it already. Anyway I'm not sure if it is RTM since the Russian site has been updated. So probably yes another thread...let's see..it's posted in English over there that it is NOT RTM.
I installed SP1 RTM last night without a hitch. Running very well. Thanks again to all in this thread!
it will probably be like this for a few weeks, until M$ is ready to release to OEM. M$ can't possibly confirm, because it wont be fair to their partners, if Pirates get it weeks ahead just like Win7 RTM, Pirates had it months ahead, before M$ partners, MSDN, and the General Public finally got their hands on it.
Everyone that is still convinced that this is not final RTM version must also belive in santa and fairy tales... i mean EVERYONE got god damn ServicingStack update with SP1 build this tuesday... MS already OFFICALY released hotfixes for SP1 for this exact build (marked as sp2)... stop beliving in MS PR crap and just open your eyes for once... because its exactly that, wierd PR disinformation that trys to prevent people leaking and using things before they are officaly avilable... and if you read it again that OFFICAL MS post, you see it doesnt say RTM build wasnt signed off, it just says its not READY for OEM and god knows what that might mean... everything from WAT/Ballot update not being ready for SP1 (thus makes SP1 not ready for OEM) to something else... but the fact is this build is LATEST build in win7sp1_rtm branch for almost 2 months, you get hotifixes for SP1 already and SP1 servicing stack... sum 1+1... I guess 1+1 is 4358903 for some...
Yes, let's see. As I've said I have installed it already. I rather would not have to uninstall it again.
When will it be ready for OEM partners, lets wait and watch is there any change in the Official one...
has anybody who installed it checked to see if it expires? wouldn't that be one way to see if it is RC or RTM?
Using Windows 7 RTM as an example: * RTM build was exactly the same between WZor's leaked version and the official ISO posted on MSDN months later. * The only difference was the ISO Checksum and Name, but internally, they were identical. Synopsis: If WZor is proven to be correct again, M$ may change the ISO Name, and CRC, just to save face. But the internals will be identical. This is quite embarrassing for M$, to have leaks from within. This is the only way, this kind of leak could happen. They will do everything to save face.
This is basically broad scale beta testing its advantageous to Microsoft for these leaks to occur in case there are issues that weren't picked up during the main testing phase
Yeah, it's hard to imagine such an enormously successful company like MS to be pissed or surprised at all the unofficial grabbing and installing of SP1 going on right now. I would imagine they to an extent enjoy feeling the pulse of excitement around their OS product and brand and see that as a prop rather than a distraction. As an SP is not a sell-able product (though connected to one) what true harm can there be in all of it? Embarrassment before OEM partners, I just don't see that at all, plus it's not like the OEM partner officially starts surfing the web in search of the leaked RTM and checking if it's the same or not. Why would they care, all they need is MS's service pack (when MS says: "Go!") for their product lines and that's that. The only thing it shows to me is how hard it is to suppress something from coming out in a company that is so huge and world-wide, and especially when that something is what a lot of people want. All I seem to hear from MS is "well, play at your own risk... we'll go on doing what we do." PS: is there anyone who has more than 4gb of RAM installed that has also installed the SP1 RTM? I just noticed it shows I have 8gb RAM installed (but so does 32-bit Win7), but 3.25gb usable! But it's 64-bit OS and 64-bit SP1... not sure how that is possible. Please check if you have more than 4gb (or 4gb, as it would tell you less is usable in such a scenario) and let me know. Thanks...
Like I've also said, I think it's most likely we have RTM, but just to play devil's advocate, the fact that MS put out the servicingstack update on Patch Tuesday doesn't really make it any more likely that what we have is RTM. Any theoretical later build would benefit from it equally. I'm curious what you're referring to here. I know that hotfixes have been made available over the last month or so, and I understand that post-SP1 fixes are labeled SP2 (because that's where they'll eventually go), but how do they tie in with this exact build? Right, the only catching point is that they told Paul in a briefing that it was "near final." I'm hoping that there was some misinterpretation along the line there. Perhaps all they were referring to is whether it went to OEMs or not, which is fairly irrelevant. Maybe they simply meant that it's nearing release. How do we know? First, it's good to see you taking an interest in nerdy things. Being hot all the time must be tiring. But unfortunately, the lack of a watermark and expiration doesn't really mean anything. Late RC builds wouldn't have either. A close partner of MS, or even someone in MS, would have access to these.
Trinket, i have installed this latest sp1 release and have 4gb installed on x64, and it is using all my 4gb no problem
