I am having a problem updating my 8.1 update1 online system (32-bit) with the latest KUC. I ran remove twice, but 12 packages from 18 cannot be removed and I'm not sure why. The system I'm updating was updated the last time with KUC W8.1 UpdateChecker_0_6_4_1501.exe and that was okay at the time. Can someone help? 1st Pass Code: Number of packages to remove : 18 ===================================================================== Removing package 1 to 10 of 18 packages 13:02:12.62 Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool Version: 6.3.9600.17031 Image Version: 6.3.9600.17031 Processing 1 of 10 - Removing package Package_for_KB2965065~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.3.1.0 Processing 2 of 10 - Removing package Package_for_KB2957151~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.3.1.0 Processing 3 of 10 - Processing 4 of 10 - Processing 5 of 10 - Processing 6 of 10 - Removing package Package_for_KB2954879~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.3.1.2 Processing 7 of 10 - Processing 8 of 10 - Removing package Package_for_KB2953522~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.3.1.9 Processing 9 of 10 - Processing 10 of 10 - Error: 0x800f0825 Package Package_for_KB2956283 may have failed due to a pending restart. Most of the problems with the installation of new packages are a REBOOT !!!! result of skipping the reboot !!! ############################################################################### Press any key to reboot After the 2nd Pass I did a reset base which removed KB2950183 and KB2933809, but the other 10 fixes are still present and can't be removed. I found this, but I'm not sure why these fixes are this way. Code: 0x800f0825 You are trying to uninstall a package that was installed on the computer and is now permanent. Therefore, this package cannot be uninstalled. If you must uninstall this package, then use System Restore to restore the state of the computer back to before the package was installed.
Not that I knowingly did. I went ahead and installed the 37 new updates and did a resetbase online after that and this action removed another 2 (KB2942844 KB2956283) from the remove list. So I still have 8 that are unremovable. Now that I think about it, It may well be that I did this on the online image back in April, when I tried to remove KB2939471 and KB2949621 after installing with the wim from MSDN Update1 ISO.
MSMG bet me to it . I wanted to download and check things out first. Just need to restart and play around with it, I'll let people know how it goes.
Yes, that seems to be the case! It was a bit tetchy at times for me, but I think the speed is a good sign for Internet Explorer 12. Looking at the state of development of the browser I am guessing it won't be released for a while, it's probably the browser that will be included in Windows 8.2/9 supposedly coming out 2nd quarter next year. I guess this is why it's labelled Windows 6.3, and not 6.2 which is the Windows 8.1 versioning. The downsides? You are running the AppV virtualisation service so you are consuming resources. Also, you have to stop the service to be able to uninstall it! I decided not to keep it. It's not like Chroma Canary for Firefox nightly which have very frequent updates.
Oops my mistake In any case, I suspect that if this developer preview does lead into a proper versioned IE, it will likely be released around the same time as the next Windows. The alternative is that it's a test platform, in that some of the features (from a programming perspective, not a usage perspective) will find its way into IE over future updates, and that the main features form part of IE 12.
There is a rumour going around that Windows 8.1 Update 2 will be 3 GB in size, and will be kind of like going from Windows 8 to 8.1 (but maybe without the driver changes). This could be false information, but if true it's quite a change. It should replace all existing Windows 8.1 updates, ad they may continue their 'fine tuning' of how they release updates.
