    gpedit:

    Open C:\Windows\System32\gpedit - User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Always open All Control Panel Items when opening Control Panel - and Select Disable.

    Regedit:

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "ForceClassicControlPanel"=dword:00000000
    Yes this works .;)

    Is there any catch to the tweak for Administrator + No UAC + Windows Store?

    Is there a way to disable drive indexing, or even on new installs?

    Is there a way to disable recycle bin on drives other than the system drive?

    Thanks for your work!

    Hi guys!

    Do you know how can I disable the text "NEW" that appears under a new installed app in the start menu?

    Thanks

    When you open a app with "NEW", it disappear.

    Some tweaks I have done in win 8.1
    1. Delete 6 folders from view when I use any program and ask it to save as...
    2. Show libraries above this pc as was the case in win 8

    I have not found the solution to this:
    1. Open file explorer to this pc (instead of libraries). Eightforum has a tutorial and a readymade file explorer but it does not work.
    2. Separate local disk, cd-rom, and removable drives as was the case in win 8. I achieve something but then something else goes in the wrong place. Example mounting of iso puts it at the top. Basically can I get the view as in win 8. Winaero has a oldnewexplorer sort of tweak but again it does not install.

    Fine I will try. Ver 1 did not work and gave a shell-type error on clicking install.
    Since last week, I have gradually increased usage of 8.1 over 8. Key reasons being:
    1. ASM esata/USB drivers are available and work. The key factor behind my using more of win 8.1.
    2. IE11 is wonderful and I consider it better than FF or Chrome. Password manager is far superior and 100% brilliant. Looks better too than the cloudy look of FF.
    3. Win 8.1 is the future and for what it is worth takes less disk space (6.5-7GB on my full system).
    4. Font pitch and blackness seems to be better to me in 8.1 than 8.

    Against this, I find 8 superior on
    1. metro screen visual experience. 8.1 is a mish-mash of colours and once I pin my used programs on start screen, it can look somewhat ugly. Program icon colours are so much brighter and in your face.
    2. Navigation and saving as is better in 8 than 8.1
    3. Cannot find much reason for the 6 folders.
    4. The device separation is total nonsense and requires some tweaks.
    5. Still cannot open file explorer to This PC instead of libraries. 8 had this `
    %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}'

    Since I found 8 to superior in navigation and my own usage, to bring 8.1 to that level requires registry tweaks.

    Is this the only problem you have in win8.1 ? because you can try the command: sfc /scannow

    :biggrin: It's not a problem! I remember that with the oldest Windows every new program was highlighted, but it was possible to disable this feature. That's all.

    Just wanted to post that Tito's link for Oldnewexplorer beta works for me.
    I can now categorise local hard disks and removable drives as per win 8 appearance.
    Can also remove all 6 folders as per registry entry from perhaps 8forum/winaero.

    Just a query:
    1. The install is just a shell command?? I do not see any entry for oldnew... in `programs..
    2. The appearance option can be left at default??? What does ithis do anyway. Hope it does not change the background white/font pitch. I am quite finicky about the font pitch/blackness and background colour (white)

    Nice work.Thank you .It will make it easier to add tweaks with a registry File ;).One should backup the registry first to undo those changes.

    I would like to know if there is some possiblity to disable the drag ability (drag to close apps, drag to snap them to the side, not the drag/drop of files/folders)?

    The only thing I found so far are those 2:

    Code:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\Switcher
    MouseCloseThresholdPercent (REG_DWORD) 0
    TouchCloseThresholdPercent (REG_DWORD) 0
    But this only disables the close functionallity, I am still able to drag them around and snap the apps.
    If its a different registry entry, I would only need it for the desktop but wouldnt mind to completly disable this feature.

    Has anyone tried this with success in 8.1:

    Solution Required: Open File Explorer to This PC instead of libraries
    Suggested Solution in win 8:
    Right-click Windows Explorer, and then click Properties.
    In the Target box, replace the current text with the following text:
    %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

    However, this does not work in 8.1. So eightforum has suggested this:

    1 Unpin the existing file explorer icon from taskbar
    2 Create a shortcut on desktop.
    3 Then paste the above text:
    %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
    4Then change the icon to the icon of file explorer.
    5. Pin this shortcut to taskbar.
