LOL wouldn't surprise me, but I am have seen Dell advertise for it, and someone once said they had it, but were worried about their job if they shared it. KMS is different then OEM SLP, so I couldn't tell you since I have never tried. The KMS method only lasts 6 months though too...

Simply because nobody here has a real machine preinstalled with Server 2008 Enterprise at his/her office or home. That's all.

That's a lengthy post on here for what you are looking for, first search on here for your Motherboard, look for a modded BIOS to implant, it's critical you follow the instructions and use what matches your BIOS, and do it with a flash drive much safer. There are only Server Standard keys for the OEM version, but if you want to try the Dreamspark China method the key will activate either Server Standard or Enterprise. With the Dreamspark method you do not need the SLIC in the BIOS.

After that you need the Cert that you can get from the Vista Cert installers, or one that matches your bios mod, in a command prompt you can insert the key by typing in SLMGR -ipk (product key) then your system should be ok.

Best to use this board, or Google if you want more details, once you do it you will appreciate being able to use OEM on your computer, but the BIOS Mod can go wrong and you could end up with a pricey Brick :)

So assess how much risk you wish to take, and then try the steps listed, there is even a way to use Vlite to add the key and the OEM Cert via installation. or download the Dell 2008 Server on Demonoid.

    Good Luck!

Arg. After all this I see I installed with a DVD identified x14-26710.

HP SLIC+Cert activated under Vista but wouldn't under 2003 due to the keys available are for X14-22128.

At least I know what's wrong now.

I personally have seen (and used) a 2008 Ent SLP virtual machine, that was created in VMWare Server using a purchased 2008 Enterprise Key and activated using a Dell Vista cert and a VMWare ROM containing the SLIC info (it was called VMBIOS_DELL_SLIC.rom as I recall, I did actually confirm this rom was loaded in the .vmx file). I did a slmgr.vbs -xpr and a -dlv .. the VM showed permanent activation (OEM_SLP channel). Too bad I didnt have a keyfinder on me at the time. Looking at the dates on some of the vmware config files, it seemed the VM had been installed since early November as far as I could tell .. it had all the latest updates according to Windows Update as well.

^^ i was thinking the same thing about that VMWare image. Couldn't you just pull the enterprise key from that, and use it with your own certs for activation?

^^ I wonder where the thread is, considering the VMWare image was posted here

also, if Standard keys activate Enterprise likewise, such as noted in the "Get Free Server 2008 Key" thread -- is it not possible to activate Enterprise with these OEM keys as well? Has anyone tried?

SLP Keys, and MAK Single use keys aren't the same unfortunately, and yes I have tried it, doesn't work :(

MS was smart on that, and so were the OEMS, cause then you would only have to buy Server standard, then download the Server Enterprise trial and add the Certificate and the PID and wallah HUGE $$$ Savings. Standard is only about 1000, where enterprise is around 2500+

I don't know about the certificates, but it will most probably require at least its own set of product keys (as did 2003 R2).

For those of you having issues making ISOs/Burning DVDs, why not just install from a thumb drive?

To get it setup, insert a thumb drive large enough to hold the contents of the ISO / CD. 4gb thumb drives are dirt cheap, surely you have one.

From the command prompt (elevated if using UAC), run a nice program called diskpart

In this program type "list disk" to list all your disks. Find your thumb drive (probably at the bottom, but also look at the size. Make a note of this number. Also, don't get this wrong or you are going to delete one of your hard drives. Pay attention.) Now, just do each of the following commands in order:

    # select disk X (where X is the number you just found)
    # clean
    # create partition primary
    # select partition 1
    # active
    # format fs=fat32 quick
    # assign
    # exit

Back at the command prompt, issue this final command...

    xcopy SOURCE:\*.* /s/e/f DESTINATION:\

Where SOURCE is the source CD or mounted iso (a la D:\*.*) and where DESTINATION is your freshly setup and formatted thumb drive. (ala E:\)

Now you can put drivers on your thumb drive as well as the PID.TXT and the $OEM$ directory. I've also found installing from a thumb drive to be loads faster.

@ NBsurfguy if you download Everest and run that, have a look at motherboard> ACPI> SLIC that will let you know if slic is present.

    Windows 2008 Enterprise Server SLP

From reading some past posts on this thread I see that there is some question on if there is a SLP Key for Windows 2008 Enterprise. I believe there is and since it wasn’t talked about yet I figured I post this. If you run slmgr –dlv all (Make sure you add the all at the end) you will come up with a long list of what looks to be every type of key that can activate Windows 2008 (in this case Enterprise edition).

I have included a screen shot of this,

NOTE: I have removed a lot of information that comes up in the screen shot because of how long it is and I really just wanted to show the types of keys there are and show that SLP is included, Run it yourself to see everything

    View attachment 687

If you run the same command on Windows Essential Business Server the list is a lot smaller (as I would expect since there is no KMS) but there is a SLP Key for that as well.

Sorry I do not have any 2008 Servers where I work otherwise I would look, We are still on all 2003. Hopefully this may help someone who has Windows 2008 Enterprise or Essential Server is able to see what type of Key they are using so maybe we can get some more keys posted. Hopefully this info is found useful.

I have installed WS2008STD x64 on my Dell Latitude E6400. Would someone please help me activate it using the OEM SLP key? I believe I don't have to do any BIOS mods (do I?)...

Help! I installed just today, but I only have 3 days to activate!

[EDIT] NVM I figured it out! (I is smart! ;D)

    1. Import License
    2. Enter product Key
    3. Enjoi!

    =)
