Thanks for answer! I have these variants to choose from: - Home (x64) - Home N (x64) - Professional (x64) - Professional N (x64) - Education (x64) - Education N (x64) - Pro Education (x64) - Pro Education N (x64) - Pro for Workstations (x64) - Pro N for Workstations (x64) Which one you recommend to install and disable the updates?
If you have a Genuine license, you need to go with the correct SKU your license specifies. If not, you should use Enterprise or Education. In case you want a long-term stable Windows (no bi-annual Feature Updates), take a look at Enterprise LTSC.
Semi off-topic: any idea why someone might be downvoting your (completely clean and bloody excellent) tool on Virustotal? Pretty annoying. Just a heads up. Fantastic work sir, and a great contribution to the community.
Where on VT is it possible to vote for an app? Edit: nevermind, I see you need an account to join the crowd..
Thank you DavidXanatos, for sharing the fruits of your research and your labours. I am very pleased that you have made it possible for all of us to manage and control our own computers. A small problem. I did a clean installation of Windows 10 October 2018 update. I used pf100's wrapper script version 2.5.5 and WuMgr version 0.9b to install the latest updates. WuMgr lists update KB4480116 (2019-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 v1809) as being 82.21GB in size, but the downloaded msu file is only 127MB. As far as I can tell all the various bits of code are working correctly, but there seems to be a problem with the numbers. Any thoughts ?
That's a known problem that cannot be easily solved. It has to do with how UUP represents the files (always the whole set of files is counted). The issue doesn't affect functionality and WUMT has the same problem.
For those of us that aren't IT types, what does "Do you maybe have AllowTelemetry in the Registry set to 0?" actually mean please and where in the registry is it located. Would it be possible to have someone just take the images I posted and mark them up with the default settings and re-post them back here. That would really help a lot of folks (well, me actually). Thank you.
It means if you did run anything that kills Telemetry, MS will not offer you CUs over Windows Update anymore. The Registry key (if exists) is in Code: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DataCollection The images are pretty much the default, as far as Windows Update settings are concerned. You see the selected "Automatic Update (default)" setting is even marked as such. So, if you didn't run anything else that interferes with Windows Update, it should still work in auto mode (as MS intended it).
@DavidXanatos, the author of WUM, or WuMgr, or Windows Update Manager, asked almost 3 months ago for help making documentation for the project in this post here. English is not his first language, so could someone PLEASE help him and the MDL community out? It could be as simple as collecting all the questions and answers from this thread and sending it all to him as a FAQ so he can post it.
pf100 & carlos It must have been something in the way I had WUM set up that was stopping the updates from coming through. What I ended up doing was downloading the WUMT Wrapper Script and installing that. All the missing updates (mostly MS Office stuff) came through immediately, didn't matter if I selected WUM (1) or WUMT (2). So for now, I'm good. Thank you for your help.
@DavidXanatos knows best what each item does If @DavidXanatos was able to write the documents in German and then the community could create translations @DavidXanatos weiß am besten, was jeder Gegenstand tut Wenn @DavidXanatos die Dokumente in deutscher Sprache verfassen konnte, konnte die Community Übersetzungen erstellen Oops I just sat on a fence.
