The tool is a front-end for WU api, it's similar to WU itselft and can't offer something different the only way to get updates for W8 is by downloading/installing them manualy
I'm aware of that. I just thought it might be possible to put a check in the tool to emulate windows server 2012 on Windows 8, to still get those updates. Like Windows XP can still get those updates via reghack.
Guys, If I disable Windows 10 updates does this tool still works on win 10 pro, even with windows update disabled?
So, If I have windows 10 with the crap autoupdate thing enabled, why use this minitool then? In the moment we open the tool to check for updates, windows 10 will be already installing things..
Setting Windows Update to "Disabled" - Works. Setting Windows Update Service to "Disabled" - Doesn't.
I like your style. But... That wasn't a question, just a clarification re @yro, because "windows update disabled" can mean both the things I did point out. I know what WUMT is, and I know it cannot process anything without the service being available.
It keeps on checking forever.. I am having same problem with Windows Update and that was the reason for using this tool. I am using Windows 7 pro SP 1
The tool is called "Windows Update MiniTool" for a reason, it's a front-end for WU and uses it's engine, not a separate updating tool or downloader as for WU long search issue in Win7, it's there since May 2015 you have 2 methods to fix it, both require manual install of updates 1- temporary fix: install KB3161664 2- official fix (not determined yet if temporary or permanent): install KB3020369, then KB3161608
Where WUMT stores info like hidden and installed hotfixes? Would be good to backup those in case of a format! If it's made by using that wumt_config.ini, I didn't get how it works.
I have suffered long search issues in Win 7 for months (over 7 hours per search session in recent months). I had tried many supposed fixes and none worked until I manually installed KB3161608 today (KB3020369 was all ready installed). After restart updates were found in 10 minutes. Thanks abbodi1406. I hope it is permanent.
