If I run this program in a PC with Windows 10 Pro and I switch the automatic updates to Notification mode, WU will stop searching and installing updates? Thanks in advance
Well no and yes. WU will still search for downloads and will notify you when updates are available, but it will not download and install them until you click Download in WU. I prefer WUMT to WU because you get more info about the updates, but mostly because you can choose which updates you want to download, install or hide.
I might have discovered a bug in WUMT, however it may also be intended behaviour. When hiding the newest updates, Windows Update would automatically present the next available updates in the supersedence chain. WUMT appears to not present any superseded updates, unless the "Include superseded" check box is ticked. With the "Include superseded" check box ticked, all superseded updates are presented. The implications are that if someone wants to avoid a specific update as causing problems or for any other reason, at least the next best update should be presented for a decision to be installed or not. Windows Update logic is that when an update is hidden, the next best is no longer superseded, being the best one available and I think this is the desired behaviour. WUMT either presents too many of the superseded updates, or none, depending on that check box status.
That the "Include superseded" checkbox has to be ticked so WUMT shows superseded updates seems logical to me. And who decides what is the best superseded update in the list, it's your choice and the list shows all (including support url), so you can select and download the one you prefer.
