Did you install the product key from System Properties (recommended) or did you use command prompt? If you used command prompt, try the following command: slmgr.vbs -ato If that still doesn't work, try changing the product key from System Properties.
i did it from command prompt. i redid the register code (register the certificate, then one of hte oem keys) and then the command you said, i got activation failed. im now going to try and install the key from the system properties. if that doesnt work, ill reinstall vista (putting the key in on the install screen) edit: system properties didnt work. i tried the alienware and asus ultimate keys. i got the message error "0xC004E003 The Software Licensing Service reported that license evaluation failed." i tried rebooting and cleaning the key out inbetween (with orbit's 2.1 tool). now for a reinstall.... yay....
Wait, don't reinstall just yet. I'm sure the problem can be solved. Are you sure the certificate matches the SLIC table?
pretty sure. everest says slic is 'pacbel' (OEM IDPacBel, OEM Table IDPBNB0019, OEM Revision20090108h) and i installed the packard bell certificate from a pack that i found with multiple oems. (i think it was here that i found it.) but packard bell doesnt have an ultimate oem key, so, as per my earlier question about oems keys, i used a different oem key for ultimate. ps, thanks for the help
ahhhh i see. i installed the proggy, now just waiting on the response. as soon as its done ill up it. i dunno about uploading the cert. i just have the standard one that ive tried to install. to get the other one i'd have to restore the laptop to factory settings with my backup disks. if you want the normal pacbel one, i can up that. lemme know if i need to try and restore it for the other one. (along with how to do that and such) the laptop is a brand new rs66, so perhaps they have updated the bios for win 7? edit: i tried running the rw program. every time i do, and click the acpi button, it freezes. in the bottom left it says 'searching acpi rsd ptr...' and sits there for a while. after about 5 min the computer reboots or shuts off. i think it may be something with the sleep timer, so ill disable that and retry. how long should that tool take to read the acpi table? edit 2: it continues to freeze up after i click the acpi button. in the help it says it may be because the program wants to decode something thats a newer version then it can decode, hence the hang. that requires editing a .ini file. after i do that, i tried it again, and as of now its still hangs. hopefully i can get it figured out.
heres the slic and certificat (the working one) as dumped by oemdump. if theres anything else i can do to help out, lemme know. thanks again for the help
Hello..Just been looking around, and there is plenty of help here, that is useful. Got a small problem with my installation of Vista. It's a Dell upgrade, and I've tried a few keys on here, all have been used no doubt. Then Vista loader 4.2..it loads, but doesn't seem to fix the "There is 2 days to activation message). Got a Vista ultimate key..doesn't work, and a boatload of XP keys (if anybody wants one..send a PM). So..it's a blatant beg, borrow, or steal, request for a Vista Home Premium key with an OEM of 89578-OEM-7332157-00204. Feel free to tell me No, but thanks for any help. Thanks Oldskooler
