windows dedup cool feature, but why not use open source ZPAQ? for me it compresses 104gb of rs2_releases get from ESD (with WIM decryption) only to 8GB. and it more stable than using a server feature manually inserted in win

My ISO-collection, 300+Gb ISOs mixture of those with Install.ESD and those with Install.wim, was packed to 100+ Gb but I'm going to convert all ISO to the same type, preferably with Install.esd and then will repeate packing. BTW, source ESDs collection of size 50+Gb was not really compressed by ZPAQ - less then 5% were saved. But I suppose that this happend due to the DIFFERENT encryption keys for these ESDs which exclude an opportunity for deduplication by ZPAQ. But as soon as all ESDs became unencrypted then situation may change as I hope.
i have more than 4tb in unarcvhived state... about 5% use install.wim than install.esd if you want to have better packed with dedup feature and ZPAQ... ZPAQ good at speed and deduplication. encrypted ESDs cannot be deduplicated because it encrypted and encrypted traffic have very high entropy and zpaq have nice total commander plugin.
Thanks again, really this plugin makes an access to ZPAQ-archive convenient as to any other types of archives like ZIP, RAR, GZIP, TAR,... I have SOME questions to you concerning your practice of ZPAQ-ing namely ISOs but this is offtop here. i had Windows 8.1 with dedup enabled and works just fine. Thn i upgraded to Windows 10 1703 and bring deduplication from this thread to new os. Newer had filesystem errors of hardware problems. For the first point of view it works fine. But now i lost many my files. some files are broken and cannot be reading. So sad. 3Tb . Damn!
For the record I have finally a REALLY working package for 10240 / LTSB 2015. Ehm... no none of the packages published here are really working there: you can use them to access a deduped volume, but deduplication itself does nothing. If anyone is interested I'll share it.
