vista Hello I am using Vmware 6.5.1 Build 126130 I have tried all of the wow 6 and as long as the floopy or cd of wow 6 is left in the drive visa is activated but when the floppy or cd is remove upon warm or cold boot vista is not activated.
Quick question I have ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe with modified bios, is it possible for me to test WoW with the motherboard bios already modified or do i have to flash back to original bios before i can test?
flagmax I've read the acpi spec. again The only thing what's out of specification is: quote: 'For the FADT, the table ID is the manufacture model ID. This field must match the OEM Table ID in the RSDT.' and additionally: 'For the XSDT, the table ID is the manufacture model ID. This field must match the OEM Table ID in the FADT.' But these don't matter, at almost every biosmod we're out of spec. and they are all working anyway. I 'hope' it's something about WoW, because I can't find anything wrong..... Eugene Nuke Please continue your great support. Thanks I appreciate much. oddballracing It depends on what you want to know Do you want to know if WoW works at original bios, or at modified one? -If you run WoW at a modified bios, the bios included SLIC will be patched to HP SLIC and it'll activate using HP certificate instead of the original one (I guess Asus) -If you run WoW at original bios (doesn't contain a SLIC), WoW introduces the HP SLIC using a appropriate routine that is another one (not the SLIC patch routine) vi_nuoc_quen_than You've said the boot from USB worked. So WoW is working. We need more details. Are you using more than one OS? If yes, you have to install WoW to where the hidden file bootmgr is located!!! And always to root!! C:\ or D:\ NOT INTO folders!
Thanks for your response Yen, What you say here pretty much answers my question, i'm not picky with what slic is used, i just wanted to make sure that there was not going to be a conflict. If i understand you correctly, then i can test this method without the risk caused by unnecessary bios flashing. it sounds like you're giving me the green light to use the test floppy/CD image. My Next question is this: Can i install WoW, change my Certificate to the hp one (Ultimate x86) and test this method without having to reinstall Windows and still having a proper activation?
So. I've got 2 different debug messages. This one: It appears then I reboot(swith off/on) PC using DebugCD(WoW6) after sucessfully boot by WoW5. And that one: It appears then I reboot(swith off/on) PC using DebugCD(WoW6) after BSOD by WoW6 or after sucessfully boot by original bootmgr. I hope, you understand.
I have just tested WoW6 from a floppy boot disk and i am very, very impressed. Kudos to the entire WoW Team, you guys have released a very well engineered utility! Everest detected the HP SLIC on first boot, and from my experience there appears to be nothing intrusive about the Boot Process at all, Now i am going to try an install of WoW on the hard drive to remove the need for a boot disk, if this works as planned, then i will definitely use this as my first option before bios modification, removing the risk for complications on a hardware level.
Eugene Nuke: Thank you for very good screenshots! In first screenshot it looks like WOW worked. Was it able to boot Vista successfully? The second screenshot says it could not find free space for DSDT infront of RSDT. So it did not relocate, did not add SLIC. Only thing it changed was Oemid in RSDT table. I want you to try this: Boot from WoW6debug2, and press SHIFT key as the Pc staring. You will see... Code: Starting Windows 98 Windows is bypassing your startup files. Microsoft(R) Windows 98 (C)Copyright Microsoft Corp 1981-1999. A:\> then type GRUB and let it boot vista. Do this few times and see if you get BSOD, this is to see if WOW is cause of BSOD.
No. When I see this sceenshot, I see BSOD too. 100% When I see this sceenshot - Vista boot properly I do it 10 times and no BSOD appears. I think GRUB is just bootmanager and it cannot do BSOD. Here is 2 ACPIReport 1. After bootmgr View attachment nc6000_afterBootmgr.zip 2. After WoW6 View attachment nc6000_afterWoW6.zip The difference is only one byte.
Oh, Thank this is my problem . I use dual boot Windows XP and Vista. I execute Wow6 into driver where install Windows XP and my Windows Vista is Activated. Thank very much to flagmax, Yen, and forums.
WoW6 and RAID I haven't seen anyone asking questions about how WoW6 Works with RAID. In theory it shouldn't make any difference as drivers are handled via the OS. I just wanted to ask if anyone has noticed any problems when trying to load Vista or WS2008 from a Raid array (no specific RAID level, no specific controller) when WoW is being used. Maybe this is a stupid question, but i figured i might ask it anyhow because it has sparked my curiosity. Oddball_Racing P.S.: WoW 6 works flawlessly for what i have been doing both on Server 2K8 and Vista
Again thanks a lot for helping us. Ok boot your PC with WOW6debug2 by holding SHIFT again when booting. At A:\ type WOW and press enter. Make sure screen looks like first screenshot in post 188, then type WOW again and press enter and post screenshot of second run. This will show memory dump of what RSDT looks like when WOW does create SLIC. I am guessing maybe SLIC is created inside relocated DSDT which is a no no but we will see. Thank you.
I reboot PC and...: Switch off/on after BSOD: Booting...OK I have ROM BIOS file for nc6000. May it help you?
Hi everyone. Thanks to great help from Eugene Nuke I believe I have found two major bugs in my code. Surprisingly it still works in VMWARE when I tested it. It seems what is happening is stack corruptions which results in inserting pointer to created SLIC prolly some place in relocated DSDT table. This makes a bad extended RSDT which is enough to cause BSOD. Eugene Nuke: I am fixing the problems and will post another debug version for you to try. Hopefully within 6 hours. Yen: Its probably good idea to pull all links from first page until I fix the bugs. edit: I was not able to fix the bugs on time, sorry. I will have some more free time on Sunday and hope that will be enough to get the job done
I've added a info message in red colour. Flagmax, do you remember? We've tried the first time to extend RSDT at VMware and Regina tested it. It was rw-everything patch and the first attempt to introduce a SLIC. I didn't notice that I've overwritten the DSDT header by extending RSDT till Regina noticed that DSDT was completely gone. VM ware still worked anyway. I guess Vmware bios is a soft bios and not that sensitive........ Eugene Nuke All I can say is thank you so much. I really appreciate your great support. Without you it will be not possible to develop FADT routine. Since we cannot simulate your acpi table config (bios) we need the help of others, especially you to make WoW more effective.
