I updated my first post with more information and added a workaround for dash, a video about how adaptive streaming works and and example.
I was using the plugin Download YouTube Videos as MP4 (Windows 7, Firefox) when 1080 was removed a few weeks ago or so and it worked. Just found out today it doesnt work anymore. Any of the apps/plugins you using working as of now?
Damn, damn, damn, damn Believe me, this is a plus for copyright protection, but a down for normal users.
@ganons, i do not use fire(the)fox hence i can not help you there, but you can use youtubedownloaderhd & 4k video downloader for 1080p downloads
So do these apps download the video and audio treams separately and then merge them? And does the opera extension you mentioned still working for 1080?
Recently I stumbled upon DownVerter. It supports downloads of 4k, 1080p, 720p and normal definition files from YouTube and other video sites, such as Vimeo, Vevo, MetaCafe and DailyMotion. The user interface is simple and intuitive and the application offers many conversion formats. It also downloads files with superior speeds. I highly recommend it to anyone.
I've found a cool workaround, it does the muxing automatically, if you have ffmpeg somewhere on your PC. Search for "Complete YouTube Saver" on Mozilla Addons (sorry, can't post links).
Nothing illegal! Possible to get the 1080p (and maybe 4K) streaming video via IDM But it has less quality than true 1080p we could download before.
