TrustedInstaller, the tool we're modifying does not interfere with Windows Update's work. It's mostly due to the fact that Windows 7 is old and cannot deal with the avalanche of available updates. Patiently wait or manually install updates (if you know what you're doing)
Updated ReadMe.txt with proper credit and the note about downloading ESU updates 1 and 1/2 month to go
Can you do me a favor and test how long WU takes to search for updates with and without the patch installed? Would love to figure out if it is just me that has this weird WU searching issue because of the patch or if it is more universal? Thanks!
It works fine for me. I used a clean windows 7 sp1 ultimate x86 (not x64) install and updated it with the November Simplix pack, then I used BypassESU-v2 and checked for updates and hid all of them that it found. I noticed that the OP has an updated BypassESU-v3 that was put there today. I don't know which one you used but, yeah, it should work for you. Edit: I just saw @Enthousiast's post above mine where it doesn't work, so I guess I'm just lucky or the way I did it makes the difference.
Used both v1 and v3 with the same result. WU does eventually work, just takes a really long time to search for updates with the patch. I am just going to install the patch after WU stops automatic updates in 2020 unless someone figures out why this happens to at least some of us. Thanks!
Thanks to all creators! This script is the really nice approach! Although I can confirm the above like issue of the almost neverendless search for updates on the fully updated Win7 Ultimate x64 including Nov2019 Preview after install BypassESU-v2. v3 is yet to be tested. Rgds, Update: Yep, it seems there is some progress with this like issue after v3 is installed. Now a check for updates takes around 10 min. p.s. KB4490628 = Servicing stack update for Windows 7 SP1 March 12, 2019 has been removed from all my win7 ultimate x64 systems upon install of KB4523206 = Servicing stack update for Win7SP1 Nov 12, 2019.
Don't know if you've thought about making a patch for Server 2008? I think there's a small number of people who still use the NT 6.0 kernel.
