@Yen, this morning on the BBC Radio 4 an expert dismissed the claims that viruses "must" mutate in the "milder" direction - "That was never a law!" or words to that effect... Omicron is not automatically to be taken as "milder" - in many, many cases it will be a serious illness... So, who wants to experiment on himself or his family?!? A warning is issued re. removing the measures too quickly, as mechanism of reporting was discussed critically... And so on and on... Nothing is quite as it may seem on a first glance... You mostly find news on their own site (bias)...I was not able to find papers published in medical journals like the competitors did. And their studies are much less powered (N far below 10,000)...remember the difference of RRR and ARR that Pfizer even had a low number of infections out of >40,000 I did not find if it's the wuhan-hu strain, but I think so. (They would have advertised that as 'innovation' if it's a newer variant). The Indian competitor Covaxin has the inactivated virus with the D614G mutation in it. The law describes that a virus has to raise R0 in order to survive and BY that it becomes less virulent! And that is the most evolutionary benefit. SARS and MERS were too virulent per se and could not even spread that far! So their extinction was inevitable. The very first news we heard about Omicon were that is it much more contagious and only THEN it MUST.....
