I could use them myself. Motherboard with no SVC tag and stuck in Manf. mode. Inspiron 1764 here.
I think I have followed 200 links to no avail!
Anyone? Bueller?

Thanks...so you know I only got to one link that actually worked off that post. One of the mirror links. Everything else was dead. I'll see if that program is any help and let you know.

Well, I got the program to work and it let me put the asset tag in but I just restarted it after swapping out some ram and I am right back to the start. It's in Man. mode again and the tag number is gone from the bios? Any ideas? I had rebooted it like 6 times before today, checking to make sure it was fixed. Everything was working ok.
I am running Memtest then I'm going back and see if I can get the number put back in after I run the program again. I'll update on my results.

You need to program the service tag, not the asset tag.

What is the use of updating a Service Tag?
Service tags are allotted by the manufacture (DELL in this case) based on the firmware of your machine.
If you change/update them, won't they be treated as counterfeited landing you in trouble?
First of all, your machine would stop being recognized by the Dell for automatic software updates.
