Governments support consumerism. The more the Corporate sells, the more taxes are collected on sales (from people Not Corporate) and the more products sold means corporate employs more people for labor and personal income tax. It's a win win for governments, they are not going to kill or reduce that golden goose
Politics are one of the main reasons we have consumerism

You are right in that govs are always bent towards business/owners and their (usually only) short term interests. But their source/boss is us, not the business, even though they seem to think so, especially in US style electoral system, with political party funding coming from mainly the corps etc. All of that is changing and we can now organise effectively much more easily than before..

And it is down to us that "source of power/funding"changes! We can force them - such is the flip-side of the coin called "democracy" - to consider medium and long term, strategic goals, as this planet is limited and we are stuck here, all of us, regardless of......

No, we have nothing to do with global warming! Nothing whatsoever! Nothing at all!!!

The charge carrier lifetime defect can be reversed by heating the solar cells in the dark.
This means that any gain in performance is offset by the energy expense of heating the array.

Ahh those pesky laws of thermodynamics. :D

    Yes. :)
I wonder why it took that much time to get that.
We knew that solar cells are losing efficiency at higher temperatures.

I always supported the concept of solar thermal energy where a coolant can be heated up at daytime to raise the efficiency of the solar panels...and of course to get hot water by heat exchange.
A part of the heated up coolant's energy could be used to heat the panels at nighttime for their recovery...

    Something for all readers....
Just in case it's not been mentioned clearly. What says science about the thread's topic and what do people think / how do they perceive what science says about?

Believe it or not there is very high consensus at scientists. It's anthropogenic.
    https://skepticalscience.com/97-percent-consensus-cook-et-al-2013.html

Those few studies (3%) which are saying different come from fossil fuel involved capitalism....
Their arguments are that green politics is made to tax people more on their fuels. And so they get people away from green politics. The fooled people are happy not to have to pay more taxes and the lobbyists are happy to raise their capital.

The 'only' bad thing is those happiness it temporary since we are on the way to ruin our earth.

A lot of that depends on the energy (heated water) lost over the time it takes to heat the panels after sundown. It looks like to me that they are attempting to get "more" out of something than what is put into it. There will always be some kind of loss along the way. As far as our technology is currently we can not get more out of something than what we put in.

@Joe C: Also, it's important to look at the temperature needed to reverse the effect. If it's greater than 100C (Boiling water)
then water would not be suitable.

    You'd require an electric heater.

Regardless of whether you believe climate change is real or not, what would it hurt to attempt to lower carbon emissions and get cleaner air? That's my point of debate on the subject.

That is right. But when you make a proper balance the sun energy is nothing 'we' have put in.
That's the reason why we should make use of it, either directly (radiation) or indirectly (wind, water)...

The exact values are not named in the article yes....
Anyway it would be reasonable to use energy for that which would not be needed either way. For instance in summer time you don't actually need that much hot water than in winter time since you do not heat your house.
And the 'cold' water is warmer in summertime (already).
A close friend still uses them. The coolant contains glycol (also for disinfection) and the system is closed and hence can build up pressure. It can get 120 degrees Celsius.

Liquids are boiling when their vapor pressure overcomes the ambient pressure.:)
Water can boil at 20 degrees already. Or at 120 degrees. All is dependent on pressure. (Keyword pressure cooker).

Or there can be a thermal heat pump which is capable of transferring delta K from the lower temp part to the higher temp part.

I am also somebody who ever had a problem how scientists or green politics try to argue when they want to say it is really time for a change.

To me simply convincing is the fact that we tie organic carbon to oxygen and by doing that we are taking influence on an important natural equilibrium.
    I posted that here: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/global-warming-your-opinion.27446/page-32#post-1260379

Already to associate removal of CO2 = to clean the air is for some people a problem, because they do not agree CO2 = pollutant.

we cant stop global warming, we will have another ice age ! those are facts ! can we have cleaner air yes, so lets focus on what we can do and not wishful thinking . since the planet was created we have had global warming and ice ages and this cycle will continue until its end, but we can have cleaner air and less pollution that is something we can control !

They had to stop calling it "Global Warming" because they have not a clue as to what the earth's climate will be and possibly even two weeks into the future. They now call it "Climate Change" because... well... The earth's climate changes!
I too am for clean air, but we must recognize there is a price to pay for it, and it is a delicate balancing act between global economies and a clean planet.

...and there is nothing "delicate" about it!" Capitalism is brutal and short-term stupid and idiotic (see what Bolsonaro is doing!!!) and so Humanity will have to be decisively clever and brutal with those sociopaths, if it wants to survive and not take most life on this planet with itself...

Economical energy storage for the electric car of tomorrow
(Nanowerk News) Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology IWS in Dresden have developed a new production process with the aim of efficient and environmentally friendly future battery production. They coat the electrodes of the energy storage cells with a dry film instead of liquid chemicals. This simplified process saves energy and eliminates toxic solvents. A Finnish company is currently successfully testing the new IWS technology in practice.

Science and technology simply cannot be stopped, given the fact these are but reflections of our spirit...

Science and technology are creating good things and bad things! it would be nice if you could foresee the future but we cant, we need improvement in life to make it more enjoyable and easier plastics was a great invention , but look at the problems now that come with plastic's pollution in the landfills, the ocean, we ship our garbage to third world country's and now they don't it want anymore !
we must advance but with caution we don't use foresight like where do we dump batteries , old solar cells, ect when there useful life is done we just seem to keep rushing to the abyss without thought!!
