it's a major update to WMC and TV/BDA components, I guess it installs on WMC enabled versions only, Ultimate, home premium... but I can't say for sure. It's a requirement for DVBlink 3.xx, for example
@xrononautis, I did a clean install with en_windows_vista_business_sp2_x64_dvd_342327.iso. After installing the OS, I installed the drivers for my VM Software (Microsoft Hyper-V) then rebooted. After that, I activated Vista Business via Windows Loader v2.2.2 by Daz and rebooted. Then, I updated my root certificates, installed .NET 3.5, then tried to install .NET 4.6.2. And, it installed fine, with no SHA256 support, just root certificates! (I didn't try it before root certificates) EDIT: I accidentally installed .NET 4.6.1, but still, after installing first update batch in my list I managed to install 4.6.2
@ExtremeGrief 950... 951 are prerequisites for fresh install, surely are worthless on updated systems.
He means KB950754 and KB951685. I was the one who posted about it not Extreme Probably this is why he was confused
That's the same ISO which I created a bootable install DVD with, and I activated it in the same manner after it was installed. I then installed the current root certificate and .NET 3.5 SP1 and .NET 4.6.1 and the 5 needed device drivers. I then followed the rest of the steps in the current guide. Considering I just did it twice on January 22nd and 24th, I don't plan to do another clean install of Vista Business SP2 64-bit any time soon. But when I do, I'll try installing .NET 4.6.2 instead of .NET 4.6.1 and then see if I have the same success that you did.
This month the Patch Tuesday updates installed a little more smoothly on my 2008 recreated Ultimate - except for one. First off were KB890830 and KB5010452. Then a prompt for a SMQR appeared. Great, I thought, until it turned out to be KB4520002 from October 2019! Nevertheless, it installed without a glitch. Then came a series of prompts for .NET SQR KB5010584. I tried 3 times unsuccessfully to get it installed but it always fails with error 643. I´m assuming it is incompatible with my installation. Is it needed? Any ideas?
Here is the dotnetfx esu bypass. @CaptainSpeleo Please put this link on the first page. Here is an other one which is more complete solution. It includes the above which is enough if you only need it for Vista + everything you need for WS2008.
Thanks to both of you. I´ll try installing the bypass. Vista is functioning very well otherwise and is a lot faster since I got rid of Webroot SA. Apart from FW and port tweaks, I am just running Zemana AM which is a tad over zealous with false positives but always up to date and bloat-free.
Why do you need antivirus? If you update regularly and not run everything from the web you will be fine
As I said, I got ride of Webroot SA which was the AV and clogging up the system. Zemana is AM and much lighter. I´m not sure whether anybody not of a nervous paranoid disposition needs any AV these days. It is all just one big marketing con.
Hello. Does windows update offer you any ESU updates if you patch WUC? Because I never saw any ESU updates and after I've installed this month's servicing stack, I always end up with a out of memory error while searching for updates (3GB RAM vm with 32bit install)
I don't recall ever using the .NET bypass tool for Vista SP2/Server 2008. Where in the current guide do you recommend I add it? I would like to test it first to see how it works for me before I add it to the guide.
