@MSMG Toolkit 9.4, W10 v1903 build 18362.30 en-us, remove all apps and some components. The Settings window closes when the button is pressed: Spoiler
So I created an ISO of build 1903 using the new/latest MSMG Toolkit, removed all that I want including system and windows store apps, installed it, then installed the latest updates (manual installs via MSU update files) and I was already on the latest update and nothing got restored from the removed components. I even ran Windows updates it just found a few driver updates and that was that. Do note that the ISO I used was the first release of build 1903 with build XXXX.30 then fully updated to the latest XXX.329 build
to MSMG simply congratulations on your fantastic work in version 9.4 I will thank you forever for all my thanks
@MSMG Does the toolkit now accept the updated DesktopAppInstaller multi arch package? Or does it still need the two separate (old) files? Also, the changes you have made in removing components etc., do they also apply to 1809 LTSC or only 1903? Cheers and thanks for your superb tool.
Exactly what did you remove?. All system and advanced components in every situation I've come across and read about have always been restored after a cumulative update..
@MSMG Sorry my bad English, I'm from Brazil..!! Firstly thank you so much by your Update Script..!! Remove Windows Apps Using Apps List and Remove Windows Components Using Package List are working and updated..?? I didn't find it..!!
Does the order in the package list matter or can it be alphabetized? As you have security center in it twice Code: ToolKitHelper:3DViewer ToolKitHelper:AADBrokerPlugin ToolKitHelper:AdobeFlashForWindows ToolKitHelper:AdvertisingXaml ToolKitHelper:Alarms ToolKitHelper:AssignedAccess ToolKitHelper:AssignedAccessLockApp ToolKitHelper:BingWeather ToolKitHelper:BioEnrollment ToolKitHelper:Calculator ToolKitHelper:Camera ToolKitHelper:CBSPreview ToolKitHelper:CEIP_SQM ToolKitHelper:CommunicationsApps ToolKitHelper:ContentDeliveryManager ToolKitHelper:Cortana ToolKitHelper:DesktopAppInstaller ToolKitHelper:DeviceLockdown ToolKitHelper:EaseOfAccessThemes ToolKitHelper:ECApp ToolKitHelper:Edge ToolKitHelper:EdgeDevToolsClient ToolKitHelper:FaceRecognition ToolKitHelper:FeedbackHub ToolKitHelper:FileExplorer ToolKitHelper:FirstLogonAnimation ToolKitHelper:GameExplorer ToolKitHelper:GetHelp ToolKitHelper:Getstarted ToolKitHelper:HEIFImageExtension ToolKitHelper:HomeGroup ToolKitHelper:InternetExplorer ToolKitHelper:KernelDebugging ToolKitHelper:LockApp ToolKitHelper:MapControl ToolKitHelper:Maps ToolKitHelper:Messaging ToolKitHelper:MixedRealityPortal ToolKitHelper:MultiPointConnector ToolKitHelper:NarratorQuickStart ToolKitHelper:OfficeHub ToolKitHelper:OfficeOneNote ToolKitHelper:OneConnect ToolKitHelper:OneDrive ToolKitHelper:Paint ToolKitHelper:Paint3D ToolKitHelper:ParentalControls ToolKitHelper:People ToolKitHelper:PeopleExperienceHost ToolKitHelper:Photos ToolKitHelper:PicturePassword ToolKitHelper:PinEnrollment ToolKitHelper:PPIProjection ToolKitHelper:Print3D ToolKitHelper:QuickAssist ToolKitHelper:RemoteAssistance ToolKitHelper:RetailDemoContent ToolKitHelper:ScreenSketch ToolKitHelper:SecureAssessmentBrowser ToolKitHelper:SecurityCenter ToolKitHelper:SecurityCenter ToolKitHelper:SettingSync ToolKitHelper:SkypeApp ToolKitHelper:SkypeORTC ToolKitHelper:SmartScreen ToolKitHelper:SnippingTool ToolKitHelper:SolitaireCollection ToolKitHelper:SoundRecorder ToolKitHelper:SpeechRecognition ToolKitHelper:StickyNotes ToolKitHelper:SystemRestore ToolKitHelper:UnifiedTelemetryClient ToolKitHelper:VP9VideoExtensions ToolKitHelper:WalletService ToolKitHelper:WebMediaExtensions ToolKitHelper:WebpImageExtensions ToolKitHelper:WiFiNetworkManager ToolKitHelper:Win32WebViewHost ToolKitHelper:WindowsDefender ToolKitHelper:WindowsErrorReporting ToolKitHelper:WindowsInsiderHub ToolKitHelper:WindowsMediaPlayer ToolKitHelper:WindowsMixedReality ToolKitHelper:WindowsPhotoViewer ToolKitHelper:WindowsReaderPDF ToolKitHelper:WindowsStore ToolKitHelper:WindowsSubsystemForLinux ToolKitHelper:WindowsToGo ToolKitHelper:WinSAT ToolKitHelper:XboxApp ToolKitHelper:XboxGameCallableUI ToolKitHelper:XboxIdentityProvider ToolKitHelper:YourPhone ToolKitHelper:ZuneMusic ToolKitHelper:ZuneVideo
@MSMG Okay, I greatly appreciate the screenshots... but from the steps I did, can you tell me where I went wrong?
Only 10.0.18362.1 and 10.0.18362.30 are supported Yes since the build no will be higher than the one required by the ToolKit.
I did tested with 10.0.18362.1 and 10.0.18362.30 with components removed and when WU used all removed components got restored. Also when updates are integrated too the removed components got restored. Will try with installing updates manually today after the installation. Edit: Tested installing the updates manually using the DISM and all removed components were back.
I have made changes to Toolkit script to use the latest DesktopAppInstaller package and it's gets integrated without error, If you have any issues when using it on live systems, do report it. Yes the changes made to removing components applies to both v1809 and v1903
May be it's a duplicate entry, just use the below new entries and order, you can alphabetized the list but the ToolKit has been tested so far only with the below order. Code: ToolKitHelper:AdobeFlashForWindows ToolKitHelper:InternetExplorer ToolKitHelper:FirstLogonAnimation ToolKitHelper:GameExplorer ToolKitHelper:SnippingTool ToolKitHelper:SpeechRecognition ToolKitHelper:WindowsMediaPlayer ToolKitHelper:WindowsPhotoViewer ToolKitHelper:WinSAT ToolKitHelper:AssignedAccess ToolKitHelper:CEIP_SQM ToolKitHelper:FaceRecognition ToolKitHelper:KernelDebugging ToolKitHelper:LocationService ToolKitHelper:PicturePassword ToolKitHelper:PinEnrollment ToolKitHelper:UnifiedTelemetryClient ToolKitHelper:WiFiNetworkManager ToolKitHelper:WindowsErrorReporting ToolKitHelper:WindowsInsiderHub ToolKitHelper:HomeGroup ToolKitHelper:MultiPointConnector ToolKitHelper:RemoteAssistance ToolKitHelper:DeviceLockdown ToolKitHelper:EaseOfAccessThemes ToolKitHelper:Paint ToolKitHelper:SecurityCenter ToolKitHelper:SystemRestore ToolKitHelper:WindowsSubsystemForLinux ToolKitHelper:WindowsToGo ToolKitHelper:AADBrokerPlugin ToolKitHelper:AssignedAccessLockApp ToolKitHelper:BioEnrollment ToolKitHelper:CBSPreview ToolKitHelper:ContentDeliveryManager ToolKitHelper:Cortana ToolKitHelper:ECApp ToolKitHelper:EdgeDevToolsClient ToolKitHelper:Edge ToolKitHelper:FileExplorer ToolKitHelper:LockApp ToolKitHelper:MapControl ToolKitHelper:NarratorQuickStart ToolKitHelper:OneDrive ToolKitHelper:ParentalControls ToolKitHelper:PeopleExperienceHost ToolKitHelper:PPIProjection ToolKitHelper:QuickAssist ToolKitHelper:RetailDemoContent ToolKitHelper:SecureAssessmentBrowser ToolKitHelper:SecurityCenter ToolKitHelper:SkypeORTC ToolKitHelper:SmartScreen ToolKitHelper:Win32WebViewHost ToolKitHelper:WindowsDefender ToolKitHelper:WindowsMixedReality ToolKitHelper:WindowsReaderPDF ToolKitHelper:XboxGameCallableUI ToolKitHelper:3DViewer ToolKitHelper:AdvertisingXaml ToolKitHelper:Alarms ToolKitHelper:BingWeather ToolKitHelper:Calculator ToolKitHelper:Camera ToolKitHelper:CommunicationsApps ToolKitHelper:DesktopAppInstaller ToolKitHelper:FeedbackHub ToolKitHelper:GetHelp ToolKitHelper:Getstarted ToolKitHelper:HEIFImageExtension ToolKitHelper:Maps ToolKitHelper:Messaging ToolKitHelper:MixedRealityPortal ToolKitHelper:OfficeHub ToolKitHelper:OfficeOneNote ToolKitHelper:OneConnect ToolKitHelper:Paint3D ToolKitHelper:People ToolKitHelper:Photos ToolKitHelper:Print3D ToolKitHelper:ScreenSketch ToolKitHelper:SkypeApp ToolKitHelper:SolitaireCollection ToolKitHelper:SoundRecorder ToolKitHelper:StickyNotes ToolKitHelper:VP9VideoExtensions ToolKitHelper:WalletService ToolKitHelper:WebMediaExtensions ToolKitHelper:WebpImageExtensions ToolKitHelper:WindowsStore ToolKitHelper:XboxApp ToolKitHelper:XboxIdentityProvider ToolKitHelper:YourPhone ToolKitHelper:ZuneMusic ToolKitHelper:ZuneVideo
Your steps are correct, it should work, after saving the image and rebuilding, do open the install.wim with 7-zip and see inside Windows\SystemApps folder whether the removed components folder aren't there. Also check if your system AV is not interfering with ToolKitHelper.exe
@MSMG And if you first integrate the cumulative update, and then delete applications and components? Or will the kernel version already change and nothing will work? And another option. After installing the system, so that deleted components are not restored, close access to WinSxS folder.
Each CU is not the same, some keys change and some new files/folders/services/tasks will be added, The ToolKitHelper.exe is not designed to handle such situations and so it leaves those changes intact and this may cause further problem when updating the OS. You can't control the WU installation internals, will see what can be done just need more time to experiment.
