I don't know if this helps . . . (1) With the VMW machine powered off. Open edit machine settings. Click options. click "shared folders" Set that up using a folder on your host machine. Start machine and you will have a folder into which you can pass scripts, files and images back and forth, (2) From inside a running VMware machine you can enabling Network Drive Sharing. Allowing C$, D$, etc Code: REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System" /v "LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy" /t REG_DWORD /d "1" /f >NUL I hope I'm not telling you stuff you've already tried...
That didn't work, when I try to copy and paste say Z drive not found even though it shows my D drive in VMware
I got VMWare to work, I had write permission issues because an orphaned Optimize Offline folder on my shared drive had some read-only permissions. I fixed the permissions, copied the Optimize Offiine folder to the VMWare C: drive, now I can run PowerShell in the folder. Also, I had to unselect share the network folder in Guest O/S as well. AND, the Defender not being removed IS an issue with running the script on Windows 11, running the script on Windows 10 works fine.
I'm glad you got vmware working! It's a very handy app to have. Thanks for confirming about Windows 11 and Defender! This might get fixed whenever the RTM of W11 comes out. I'm not sure Microsoft would see the inability to disable defender as a bug!! Much more likily that the Optimize script developer comes up with a solution once he releases a version that officially supports W11. Whenever the next W10 LTSC comes out, I'll definitely keep a ten-year supported version of that OS on a vmware and possibly a dual-boot partition on a real device.
Unless I misread your comment, I thought LTSC 2022 comes with 5 years of support, not 10? (uness you meant Win 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC, which does come with 10 years of support)
Here what I remove. I remove Notepad and Wordpad because I use Notepad++ which is volumes better. If you have no Start Menu, CTRL ALT DELETE and sign out and back in, or just reboot your PC. Microsoft Store for paid games and apps confirmed working. Are you running the script from Windows 10 or Windows 11? Running the script whiler running Windows 10 I can remove Defender, Windows 11 I can't. Oh, and I'm using OO 4.0.1.8
Super like to you buddy, made my day , night actually here In other words, the dism of W11 has removal protection for windows security, screw you Microsoft!!!!
Kedarwolf brother pl update first post on this thread about using Win11 with OO is not recommended so that users wont ask same question again n again . Regards, [COIN]
See this post about running Windows 10 in VMware to use Optimize Offline. You need a working Windows 10 activation key though to use it. https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...20h1-and-ltsc-2019.80038/page-44#post-1673574
Anyone else have an issue where the keyboard often double types a letter in Windows 11?. Edit: Never mind, I fixed it by increasing the repeat delay on Control Panel/Keyboard. Second Edit: Still double typing.
Anyone running Windows 11 that wants the classic right-click context menu, add this to your Additional Tweaks.reg It doesn't work for desktop shortcuts but for every other file it works. Code: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FeatureManagement\Overrides\4\5861182] "EnabledState"=dword:00000001 "EnabledStateOptions"=dword:00000001 "Variant=dword":00000000 "VariantPayload"=dword:00000000 "VariantPayloadKind"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "SeparateProcess"=dword:00000001
Haven't had time to check but, as I understand it, this only works (for the desktop part) if the following has previously been applied, please advise Code: Registry Editor Version 5.00 ; Enable Classic (Old Windows 10) File Explorer Context Menu and Ribbon on Windows 11 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "SeparateProcess"=dword:00000001
I've decided to go back to Windows 10 21H1. I'll advise if you still need VMWare to remove Defender from the ISO if you're running Windows 11 when I get to that.
Does anyone want me to explain how to add the updates for Win 10 and Win 11 on 19041. and 22000.1 ISOs with W10UI for Optimize Offline? It's the very best way to make a fully updated ISO, even better than UUP Dump. I'll likely make another thread for that unless there is one, but I don't think so.
No, no need to run VMWare when running Windows 11 as your O/S to remove Defender from a Windows 10 ISO.
Just a trivial comment. The 4.0.1.8 log file still reports itself as 4.0.1.7. IMO, not worth reporting it as an issue on GitHub. Hopefully fixed in the next version.
