now 1.9.214.0 should be the latest version as that one has "ReleaseSign" and will soon be published onto the MS store. pal1000 should remove the v1.9.213.0 version of Realtek Audio Control from his web site since that one never got released from the MS store also 8899 WHQL UAD Nahimic was recently released (but has Realtek HSA 212 which may download & install 1.9.212.0 [or maybe 1.9.214.0] from the MS store)
Hi @MoKiChU, Amazing work, I have been a member for some time here but only just now I stumbled on this thread. My board is a ROG Crosshair VIII Hero X570, it has SS3 and DTS so I used your driver Realtek Audio Drivers (UAD - ASUS ROG SS3-DTS). This should be correct I guess? I'm on LTSC (1809) and already found out that the DTS app doesn't work, I did find an old 1.05 version of DTS:X Ultra that installed OK but simply doesn't work at all. No big deal, I don't really need DTS so that will be something for a future OS upgrade. Thanks for your dedication and support, it's awesome. Cheers.
Hi, Indeed, you need Realtek Audio Drivers (UAD - ASUS ROG SS3-DTS) but the DTS Third Party drivers contained in this driver package as well as DTS Sound Unbound app require Windows 10 64 bit 1903/19H1, that's why you can't install them.
@ MoKiChU Which output would you suggest to use for music playback with players like Foobar or JRiver (I use both), WASAPI or ASIO? I've seen, btw, that ASIO has reached version 3.1.5.1 (I remember when it was still 3.0.0.0 with the official Asus HDA drivers not so long ago). Which one gives the best quality in your opinion? My motherboard (C6H) has the Realtek 1220. Thanks
Hi, There is no sign that there will be one soon. There are no HDA - FF03 drivers whose vulnerability is fixed to date (apart from a version 6.0.8858.1 from @alanfox2000 but dedicated to ROG notebooks). So if you want SS3 at all costs, you must either use vulnerable HDA drivers either switch to UAD drivers which are not affected at all by this vulnerability (here is the switch process I had given to someone who wanted to switch to UAD drivers but uninstall SS3&SR3 Win32/Legacy version apps via Control Panel > Programs and Features before follow the switch process). Note : Refer to this post to know the main differences between HDA/Legacy & UAD/DCH drivers. Hi, If the players are ASIO compatible, ASIO is preferable to all audio transport methods with kernel stream processing such as WASAPI or DirectSound, because it produces less latency, a better level of jitter and no mixing of audio streams.
The vulnerability is fixed, but as I explained to you just above, these are dedicated to ROG notebooks.
So i've read pages and pages here and on another forum about these Realtek drivers. I used to install the latest but i see that is not best case always. My question are: 1. Is there a "diagram" that shows for what windows version a driver is applicable, since i used to install the latest even on W7. 2. Are there any UDA drivers from MCU, lots of them i had download weren't. How you can tell? 3. Are there any good/best versions? Many say old as 8648 are or newer like 8730, 8787. 4. And do the have any kind of impact when were talking about the Digital outputs besides the Analog output? Thank you
Hi, 1 - Refer to this post to know the main differences and the OS requirements between HDA/Legacy & UAD/DCH drivers. 2 - Yes, but @erpsterm35 is best suited to answer you. It's not my field. 3 - Except specific problem, in general, as for any others drivers on your PC, use the latest WHQL available for your motherboard/graphics card. 4 - There is always an impact, whatever the output used (it’s as if for example you were asking if the graphics improvements NVIDIA makes on its drivers can be seen as much via HDMI as via DisplayPort). The Impact can come from all elements of the drivers packages (drivers themselves, Realtek APO, Third Party APO (SS3, DTS), etc.).
Hi, Here is the switch process : Uninstall your HDA drivers (via Control Panel > Programs and Features or via Settings > Applications) > restart request > Install the UAD drivers (Setup.exe) > restart request > Realtek Audio Control to install (auto/manuel) from Microsoft Store at start (and the third party apps to install from Microsoft Store according to your motherboards audio specs).
1. So HDA are for W7 and up but many are marked (in their filename) only for specific versions such as RS4_5 or RS5 e.t.c is it true or just a bad filenaming? 2. I would like to have an answer on that. 3. So going back to 8899.1. 4. Just a simple Gigabyte mobo with ALC889 and no "strange" sound customizations (SST/nahimic) i believe. I've always used the FF00 packages on my GA-PH67A-UD3-B3.
1 - That's right, it's not a naming error. The HDA drivers are now Legacy drivers and do not receive as many updates as before, and the few updates that there are, are mostly HDA - FF00 and are mostly specific to latest Windows 10 builds or specific to some equipments. 2 - Anyway, now that I know the motherboard you are using, I can tell you that the UAD drivers are not officially compatible with your motherboard. You must stay use the HDA - FF00 drivers.
I am on the UAD version for my Maximus x code. But it's a few months old at this point. It got exhausting always trying to update...however I seem to notice recently ( and I don't think this occured before) skipping to my audio every several seconds while in game. (Not during normal desktop stuff, YouTube, etc). I suspected it was something to do with 1) a recent Windows update and 2) something about nahimic. So I found checking "disable all sound effects" in realtek audio control cures it. @MoKiChU I assume that disables nahimic service? However, unfortunately I can't eq my sound anymore. Side note, I had to hide a recent update in Windows that kept trying to install a new version of avolute (1.0.6 something if I recall) than I had installed with my driver package. Got really annoying. Will be nice that windows will give us optional updates for drivers from here on out, instead of trying to sneak them in. That should be taking effect in Windows update any day now according to tenforums post
Your Asus website indicates that you need FF03 drivers that comes with HDA package. Don't know much about that. About Windows lately trying to install realtek driver over latest driver, it also happened to me. I hidden the driver update from installation using "wushowhide.diagcab" tool from M$ and installed my FF00 drivers without a problem. I suggest you do same. First set windows updates to pause, you uninstall your realtek driver , reboot, and run the tool and select hide the realtek drivers in update list , install FF03 drivers and reboot. Windows never touch your driver again. You can also opt-out drivers installation in group policy editor or through control panel. Turn back updates on later.
Yes I used the show/hide updates tool for it. Yep I use the correct package that's not the question at hand really. I use "shutup10" for driver updates to be disable since I've moved to windows 10, among disabling a bunch of other junk. It was odd of all the driver updates it could have snuck in, but didnt, it tries to give me that one. And I believe group policy editor doesn't apply to Windows 10 home right?
Yes there is no group policy facility in home version. Me too used shutup10 to disable some suggested features but later reverted back because i found some things not working correct in my pro version. Windows always try to discourage 3rd party apps that play with its features.
Hi, If you do not update via my driver packages, at some point Windows Update will do the update for you (badly for you in this case).
