Microsoft wants me to install an OLDER microcode revision than what I have (8700K/z370, rev. 0x96, i.e. last one). They just served KB4100347 with 0x84, which doesn't make any sense, the patch doesn't seem to replace the newer microcode, it remains 0x96. Uninstalled and hidden. Just why, Microsoft... you already have access to so much telemetry, can't you read my revision like CPU-Z and AIDA64 and don't offer older stuff?
Now intel microcode update (KB4100347) appear in Windows Update unlike before (it doesn't appear in WHDownloader). What would happen if I integrated it and installed Windows 10 in a PC which isn't compatible with it?
An incompatible CPU should simply be ignored, I presume it should apply microcode patches according to exact CPU model that is detected. It installed successfully (after being offered on WU) on a Phenom II based desktop, and made no difference.
I integrated the latest CU etc. with KB4346084 on 1803 with W10UI and get no updates offered on a clean install.
It's compatible with windows, @abbodi1406 once told me it doesn't hurt to integrate it, the code should recognize compatible CPU's by itself when windows is installed. But i never pre-integrate microcode updates, i let WU offer them when needed.

How does the microcode update via WU differ from doing a BIOS update from the board manufacturer? Is the Intel update modifying the BIOS?
If I have to guess, I would say that your mainboard manufacturer's bios update, uses an older version of the intel spectre protection patch, and this new update provides protection against newer variants of spectre. This patch doesn't modify the bios like a proper bios update would, it's a Windows-level patch.
From what I understand your BIOS needs the latest microcode update and your system needs the newest Microsoft microcode patch to be fully updated.
I try Windows 10 Version 1511 and it's updates are cumulative. I find the package contains previously-released fixes. Only the new fixes that are contained in this package downloaded and installed.
I have made these steps for Windows 10 Update installing : In one folder i copied w10ui.cmd, the update CU and install.wim Execute W10ui.cmd as administrator Host OS: Windows 10 Enterprise 10 LTSB (v1607, Build 14393.2430) with its Windows ADK I have met Unmounting image problems (either it doesn't start or stuck during the unmounting process). The i used "dism /cleanup-wim" command and unmounting image is working.
