    That is not the problem, In your machine, untouched windows 7 x86 with AV and drivers installed, should take around 800 MB ram (tested with 2 GB ram, with 3GB it may take little more) in idle mode, and you still have more than 2 GB ram left, that's enough for the normal tasks.
    With the lite os you mentioned, you'll gain around 200 MB more, but with a price of having crippled OS.

    Actually, working perfectly! Install, set and forget. Defender definition updates happen in the background with regularity. When MS releases updates they can be ignored, installed individually by the application, or downloaded for future installation. When issues are brought to the developer's attention they are addressed quickly (although it's been flawless for some time now with the latest version). So, all in all, no complaints.

    "Updates will be checked from the file wsusscn2.cab, which must be placed in the program folder."

    I put the wsusscn2.cab & wumt_x86.exe in c:\temp\
    but when I select offline mode, then select "Check for updates", I get an error

    [1:17:05 PM]: Searching for updates
    [1:17:05 PM]: Installed in Offline mode. Updates will be checked from the "wsusscn2.cab" file
    [1:17:05 PM]: An error has occurred: 0x80070002 The system cannot find the file specified

    --- error 0x80070002 ist generic update error, usually damaged OS with various strange idea :p
    --- run sfc /scannow System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted Windows file.
    --- if this does not help then format the HDD and install untouched Windows

    :eek::eek: Control Windows Update :laie:

    This thread is for WUMT and not WUMgr.
    BTW there is no uninstall procedure. Just delete the folder.

    @soak
    Delete all values under this key, or the whole key, and reboot
    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
