    And bloat.

The latest Ati and Nvidia drivers are close to be as large as the whole XP installation, all of that to provide their idiotic control panels, instead of the good old additional tab provided 10 years ago

And finally of which position we are, if I'm not mistaken the question was "still no way to prevent WU from updating drivers automatically"? :D

    I agree with you.

Not all updated drivers are helpful but yes some device drivers do fix certain issues.

    The above has never worked

I still think Windows Update Mini Tool is best option, yes it downloads driver (1 time) but then you hide it, it never downloads that driver again, driver stays hidden until you bring it out of retirement.

That is odd, cause when I tried to install the XPS printer from "Windows features", I got a denied message as that policy
was activated?, (And it told me so).

Just tried this on a fresh install of 14393.67 (courtesy of murphy78).

Changed the policy, ran gpupdate /force.

Driver was still downloaded automatically -__-

Yeah, installation failed when running it directly from the .msu downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Haven't tried it using dism after extracting it to a .cab file.

i wish i had an answer for you for me mostly in Win10 i gave up and let windows update the drivers unless it causes a problem then i install the original manufacture driver

To be honest leting windows update did not cause much of a harm it actually helped me to solve my HP laserjet Printer issues as the original HP Driver seems incompatible with all the printer features for example booklet printing on both sides using foxit phoantom rather than using the printer properties itself

Great that it solved your problem, but the bigger question is, why do we have policys if they don't work?

i has a sad ): that no-one tries disabling windows driver update by deleting HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UpdateHandlers\Driver
of course this is meant as a last resort if nothing else works

latest cumulative update borked windows update
it done it by creating an empty updatehandlers\driver key without any values
    thanks microsoft

so i guess this hack only works if its started every boot in case of windows update restoring things and borking things up

The problem is that you can't install drivers at all if that policy is enabled. Did not work when I tried to install drivers for my HW.

WUMT is a great tool but Windows update has to be enabled in order to get it work. If I enable Windows Update, will WU try to download updates and drivers automatic by it self or do I have to manually search for it? Im afraid if I enable WU it will try to download updates automatic and install them.

Is there a way to block WU from downloading updates and drivers and still be able to use WUMT?
