Hi, 1-) Is there any way to locate/install downloaded updates without SoftwareDistrobution? I mean sometimes i have to format my machine so downloading same updates cause pain. - I have to download with update catalog or copying download links from this software BUT If i want to install them, this would be difficult then normal - If i download some drivers with .cab extension, "dism" method can't install them. I have to install with "Device Manager" or "pnputil.exe" method(s). If i can install with this software, it makes easier like clicking some button. 2-) What is an update with .psf extension? What is the difference? Thank you!
1) No either full updates files (.cab or .msu), or WU which utilize express deployment 2) psf = patch storage file it contain the actual binaries used in WU express deployment, not usable outside WU
shewolf, original poster can you clarify in the message that setting automatic updates does not work in windows home version and mention it uses windows registry. and suggest alternative. great program though, heavily needed anyway.
If I run WUMT in Notification Mode and do a scan which lists say 20 updates and I only install one, why does it rescan again after the one update? If I did each each update one at a time, I would end up with 21 scans That wastes a lot of time. One initial scan should be enough to let me install what's listed, even if I only select a few at a time. The same thing happens in offline mode too. When I'm done, I can always manually run a scan again.
Maybe because some updates stop being offered after you install some other updates and likewise, some updates depend on other updates to be installed first anyway, nothing is perfect
Okay, but does WU ever show dependent updates together after searching for updates? If so, it would have to handle the order and applicability of the fixes when installing from the list. Is that correct? Also, do you know when the Update Status in the Settings gets refreshed? After updating with WUMT, the Update History reflects what I updated, but the update list is still showing everything as before.
No, neither WUMT what i ment is that it rescan after installation to offer any new dependent updates (if any) anyway, this applies mostly for W7 & W8.1 you mean W10 Settings app? i don't know
Maybe, but after build 15063 they changed things a little bit you can try, change update service to "DCat Flighting Prod"
Hello, WUMT is awesome! Question: As the update files are stored in the "\ Windows \ Software \ distribution \ download" folder, is it possible to retrieve a KB file on a Win 10 Pro x64 machine using WUM's "download only" function, Then copy this file to another Win 10 Pro x64 machine in the appropriate folder and then upgrade both machines with WUMT? The objective is of course to download the big files (cumulative updates Win 10 for example) only once for several identical machines ... There are surfers on the web at less than 2 mb / s !!!
No each machine has unique SusClientId and other specific settings even though the downloaded files might be the same, the download GUID differs, and WU/WUMT will not use the files copied from another machine
hmm maybe have other solution well after him download all updates necessary copy all in pendrive then update all machines since if all O.S. is same of course
Simply download the MSUs from Update catalog . The Hotfix repo provides even the links for the latest ones.
oui je ne pas parle tress bien, but you need remember that here in MDL offcial language is English and read our rules too and anyway here at your service
Since i have several PCs, I use WUMT to get the KBs needed, download the fixes using the windows update catalog, copy them on a usb pendrive and apply them on my different systems.
yep I forget to tell in post #774 above that is necessary make use of wumt made by you and pf100 so now myself autocorrect oh my God the OP is made by Shewolf sorry
